Perhaps it's possible to feed people AND build the cross. Why do you assume money is being take away from other ministries to do this? When my church renovated our basement, we did so because 1 person in the congregation donated some money and earmarked it for that. Her money was spent on ONLY that and she wouldn't have given it if we didn't use it for that. This cross is apparently being paid for by money that is earmarked specially for this purpose.
Well sure it is, Viz! But even you have to admit, that spending a million on a cross is a million that could have been spent better elsewhere, such as feeding, clothing, providing shelter, etc.

Again...I ask: What do YOU think is the purpose the church exists? Is it to feed, clothe, and shelter the poor? Or did Jesus command something else in Matthew 28?
And, as I pointed out, that money being donated to it is expressly given to build the cross. Not to feed the poor, not to clothe or shelter them. They are not taking money away from the poor to do this.
So enlighten us. What do you honestly know about this cross and this church?
Sounds like someone just looking for a reason to complain about something they know nothing about.
Enlighten us? Who are the us you believe you speak for? Allow me to enlighten you. You do not speak for anyone but yourself. Own your words.
I will not allow you to speak for these shadowy others. I believe everyone here is more than capable of addressing me all by themselves.
Sounds like you not someone, has a real problem in this particular area. No worries. Feel free to begin again. Sooner, or later, with my help, and correction, you will learn to speak for only for you.

Fine...keep dodging the question. Is there a reason you won't answer it?

Who wants to know? I prefer to know who I am speaking with. Who do you believe you represent, and speak for? Enlighten me.
You do not wish an answer. You have not asked a question. You wish me to speak to something you have not asked. You are speaking for imaginary others. If you wish to know something, ask me.
You're assuming the church is building the cross to "show off". If that's the case, I would agree with you. But perhaps they are building it as a beacon of hope, to draw people to the love of Christ. In that case, it's worth every dollar.
Do you think somebody will be drawn to Christ by looking at a big concrete and steel cross? Seriously?
Are you being facetious? A pentegram is a pagan symbol. Paganism is a group of religions, none of which promote violence. The cross symbolizes a particularly brutal method of killing someone, Jesus in particular. Call crosses art if you will, but their symbolism is pretty morbid. Here is a link which describes the true meaning of pentagrams:
You asked what I thought and I told you. Follow Jesus. Simple. No BIG ol' cross necessary or needed.
Lol...every time I say something like, "Feed the hungry. Help the poor." I get the frowny face from the fundamentalists. Apparently the quickest way to rile up a fundamentalist is to be an advocate for the poor.
If there is a hungry or homeless person in the area, what will they think when they look at this thing and know money that could have made a difference in their life was spent BY A CHURCH for a big stupid cross? It's not good marketing.

The primary purpose of the church is to create imaginary dangers and then "save" people from said dangers. For a fee, of course.
The church is essentially a protection racket.
