In '12, MANY Evangelicals didn't vote because they refused to vote for a Mormon. By doing this, they cast a de-facto vote for Barack Obama - and then they have been complaining for the last 3 plus years. Romney may not have been their religious choice but he probably would have had political views similar to them.
This year, it LOOKS LIKE Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee. He claims to be Christian but is he - really? His multiple marriages would be a concern to many Evangelicals.
If he ends up not being the nominee, then it appears that either Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio would be the nominee.
In November, Evangelicals will have to choose one of them. If none of them meets their religious standards, maybe they will stay home again, casting another de-facto vote for the Democratic nominee.

American Evangelicals. I have a question for you. If a Republican were to become the President in January, what would you expect him to do as far as your religious beliefs are concerned?
Stating that a President is a Christian is meaningless.
The Supreme Court said in '73 that abortion was legal.
The Supreme Court last year said that same sex marriage was legal.
Those things aren't going to change.
A Christian President has as much power to accomplish things as would a Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, or atheist President.
What do you think is going to change?
The U.S. is a secular nation. It is NOT a monotheistic nation.
I guess I just don't understand why a candidate HAS to state that he or she is a Christian when his or her religious beliefs are completely irrelevant to the job.
It's as important as saying that a President knows how to play chess, pool, or Crazy 8's. So what.
End the death penalty.
Ensure broad protections for the LGBT community.
Ensure broad protections for documented and undocumented immigrants
Expand help for the "least of these"
Reduce the prison population
Expand women's health services, sex education, access and affordability of birth control
Ensure that Roe vs. Wade is protected from being overturned.
Ensure universal healthcare
That's a short list, and a good start. I could keep going all day.

Jesus did not promote Marxism. If Jesus promoted the world’s form of socialism, He would have made this clear in His teachings. The word “gospel” is referenced 100 times in the Bible. Not once did Christ ever mention a “social” gospel. Nor did He support enacting “social justice” or “income equality” or the wholesale “redistribution of wealth.” As you well know, socialism doesn't work.

He may not have promoted Marxism but the vast majority of His Teachings, regarding social issues, ARE liberal.
The choices for President comes down to service to the nation for every person no matter what their faith.
Or, the size of a man's hands, the color of his skin, the condition of his pores, sweating, and denying women reproductive healthcare.
Jesus was about service. He might have been amused by the clown car of politics today. I know I am.
