1 Corinthians 15:1-8 - 1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.

Paul provides the gospel message that is able to save any human being when it is received.

Jesus Christ died for our sins.

He was buried.

He was raised to new life. The raising to new life was a physical resurrection, being that He was seen by hundreds of people (minimum).

Believe this and God will ensure your salvation.

Thanks DRob. That is the true gospel. Eternal salvation is as simple as that. Eternal life is a free gift which is offered to all, and received by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. Simply believe that He died for our sins (that He died for you personally), and that He rose again. This is a recognition that you can do nothing to earn your salvation but that Jesus did everything necessary for your salvation. Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.

Yep, easy-believism. Why bother being good when you can just spout the Magic Words To Jesus?

You can indeed do nothing to earn salvation from Father. The entire work starts and finishes in Him! But, my friend, you left out part of the word from the Master...

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved and your house ."

Dear Trout, you need to spend more time on your lake fishing. I bet you don't know Ontario only has 250,000 fresh water lakes, carved out by the ice age eh. But, my friend, there are no "magic" words, only the words of an individual who has come to the end of themselves, and Rose means the end!

Each person is responsible for personally believing in Christ. Acts 16:31 is not saying that your family is saved by your own personal faith. As Acts 16:32 and following shows, Paul and Silas went to the jailers house and witnessed to everyone in the household and they all personally believed and were saved as a result.

My friend, I wonder why the Master of reconciliation spoke these words? Is it possible something is evading your spiritual grasp?

Dear Rose, I am well aware of the number of lakes in Ontario and yes, I do need to spend more time fishing. I also agree, there are no "Magic Words To Jesus" that ensure a comfy seat in the choir celestial following our earthly expiration date.

But there are people on this forum who are among the worst human beings I have ever come across in my near-67 years on the planet. They are narrow-minded, dark-spirited and cold-hearted. But they believe saying the Magic Words To Jesus keeps them good with their god.

Acts 16:32 and following clarify what Paul and Silas meant in Acts 16:31. If the jailers family also believed then they would be saved as well. His family did believe and were saved as a result. The passage is self explanatory if read in its entirety.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible
And thy house - And thy family. That is, the same salvation is equally adapted to, and offered to your family. It does not mean that his family would be saved simply by his believing, but that the offers had reference to them as well as to himself; that they might be saved as well as he. His attention was thus called at once, as every man's should be, to his family. He was reminded that they needed salvation, and he was presented with the assurance that they might unite with him in the peace and joy of redeeming mercy. Compare the notes on Acts 2:39. It may be implied here that the faith of a father may be expected to be the means of the salvation of his family. It often is so in fact; but the direct meaning is, that salvation was offered to his family as well as himself, implying that if they believed they should also be saved.

Acts 16 Barnes' Notes

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible
and thy house; or family, provided they believe in Christ also, as they did, Acts 16:34 or otherwise there can be no salvation, for he that believeth not shall be damned.

Acts 16 Gill's Exposition
Stanley D. Toussaint, ThD. Senior Professor Emeritus of Bible Exposition;
The words and your household mean those members of his house who were of sufficient age to believe would be saved (cf. v. 34) as they trusted Christ. Each member had to believe to be saved.
