In response to the post about the Catholic Church providing all of us with our bibles. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't it the Catholic Church who tried so desperately...to the point of killing people...to keep the bible away from the people? Wasn't it due to pressure they had to finally let the people have the bible?

I've been to the Catholic Church many times for masses and NEVER once did they say, "please turn with me in your bible". I know that individual Catholics have bibles and read their bibles...but the Catholic Church on a whole has not been the "protector"of the bible.

Some of the finest people of God I have ever met in my life were Catholics. I don't agree with all their doctrine....but their walk before God is to be greatly admired and respected.

Yes, I agree with you on this. I also find the OP's sentiment of feeling close to God to be admirable.

The OP said "say what you want about Catholics", and I said 'ok'.

Every Sunday we have a reading from the Old Testament, a reading from the New Testament, and one reading from the Gospel. The sermon is generally on how the readings are related and how those readings and gospel relates to modern life and can be applied to our everyday life. You may bring a Bible or just read from the books provided. The readings are on a 3 year schedule.

The Catholic Church is no doubt the greatest protector of the Bible. The Catholic Church created it and used it for 1100+ years before any Protestant faith claimed to be around. It is used in every Mass since it's conception and has also been extremely influential in our liturgy.

"We are compelled to concede to the Papists that they have the Word of GOD, that we received it from them, and that without them, we should have no knowledge of it at all." - Martin Luther

Actually, we have those readings EVERYDAY and if you attend Mass everyday (including the service on Good Friday as there is no Mass held on Good Friday) for 3 years, you will have heard the entire Bible.

Preterist, what you don't seem to understand is that the concept of Sola Scriptura is an entirely Protestant (man-made) invention that didn't exist in the early church.

Whether you admit it/accept it/believe it or not, you base your interpretations upon either your own understanding, or the understanding of another man. But we are told not to lean on our own understanding. If you say you base your interpretations upon the Holy Spirit, then you likewise don't seem to understand that there are many others who disagree with you, yet declare that their understanding/interpretation of Scripture is given to them by the Holy Spirit as well. How can that be? Why would the Holy Spirit give different people different interpretations of the same Biblical verses? Is Christ divided?
