(Okay, that was a little piece, tiny bit of Christian humor.)

Personally after studying the history of how the Bible came into being Canon, i found the political conditions and personal elightenment of the individuals that participated to be imperfect.

There are amazing scriptures available in this day that fill in many of the voids that were created by consensus theology.

As we are led by the Spirit and trust in the still small voice of God, we can see the difference between what glorifies God and what does not.

We can weigh and contemplate the truths of God with the written word as we allow the peace of the Holy Spirit to lead us into All truth, not just some truth.

Travel without fear and be prepared to have some of your understandings to be stretched. There is no fear in love, and God will not forsake the seeker that humbly asks, seeks, and knocks.

godspeed,

freedom

Finally someone mentioned the Spirit! I'm interested in the (say it with me now) re-la-tion-ship we have our Father. If we have to find it in the Bible to make a decision on what brand of cereal to buy - well, there's a problem.

Gods history and instructions or guidelines on Christ like behavior are in the bible..Too many people seem to treat the bible as if it were the box that God is in and they keep him there., only to remove the lid enough to ask a question then tell the world what God told them to tell us about what He really meant when He inspired the bible...God is not confined to the bible..and neither is his Son..God and the Son are available to us through the Holy Spirit which was given by Christ ((as He promised) to be our comfortor, our guide and our link to God..So many people seem to not trust Christ when He promised that helper.. I want to clarify that I love the bible, it introduced me to the Father, Son and the Spirit.. I read its wisdom almost daily, I find great lessons and comfort and beauty in the scriptures, but God is within me now and I know it, I trust the things He brings to my mind and the growth in faith I have received since I realized this..When I go to the Bible it is to reconnect with the beauty and simplicity of the gospel of Christ..I do not try to interpret it, add strange prophecies or search for hidden meanings there, because there are no secret words or meanings there, only the pure simple Gospel of Gods love for us and a promise of eternal life if we believe..I think the bible prophecies have all been fulfilled except for the second coming of Christ..

It is true we are led by the spirit but some have been led to kill, "God told me to do it" (bad analogy I know but it gets the point across) We look to the bible to see if it was spiritually sound doctrine.

I agree Fundy, about going to the bible to make sure of some things and I would also add to give instruction to new Christians, too..I should have clarified that I was talking about mature christians....Most christians don't have to go to the bible to see if God told someone to kill..Most would recognize mental illness..My sil is bipolar..When his meds work he knows Gods word, and is a devout Christian.. When his meds are not working, he thinks he is the Son of God..and sometimes gets Santa confused with God..clearly mental illness..

I'm glad we picked up the subject of being led by the Spirit; you're right Fundy, some have been "led" to kill, but we could find support to kill in the Bible as well.

If we have His spirit within us, He resonates with life not death. It's true that new Christians will gain an invaluable insight to their Father through His written word, and we will continue to be inspired by it throughout our days. That being said, we MUST learn to hear His voice. (Jn 10:27). Coming from a Pentecostal background, I understand there will be debate concerning this level of communication.

We know that it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, but what was going on while all that rain was coming down? We know that Jesus was born to a virgin in a stable and we know that He died on a cross to save us of our sins. But we only know a little of the 'in between' years. So what's to say that just because it isn't in the Bible, it isn't true?

Just wanting to hear some of your thoughts...
Hi weatherologist,

This is related to the sola scriptura debate. This has been going on for a long time. I am sure many things are true but how to verify the truth? The scriptures are for the most part well preserved accounts from the witnesses of Jesus and his disciples. We are also missing something as other books are mentioed in the scriptures. However I doubt it would change the Gospel account much.

I believe that the Bible is as it is, because that is God’s will.
That we should spend a lifetime reading it: seeking answers and discovering new truths.

So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11

Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.
Isaiah 45:15

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Matthew 7:7,8

If it was all just spelled out:
Where would be the mystery?
Where would be the faith?
Where would be the growth?
Where would be the seeking after God?

God is perfect and He so is His Word, He would not have left anything out that He wanted us to know. The Bible is a complete instruction book on living. Everything we need to know is there.
