If all we need is "to believe" why is there so much scripture about overcoming and keeping the commandments (love God and love your neighbour as yourself)

There is a difference between not keeping because of sinful condition still dwelling within, vs sinning out of rejecting the grace, God's Word and the sacrifice of Jesus.

There is more layers to the scriptures than believe and be saved {{from eternal torment in a fiery lake}} --- when Jesus, and the apostles later, were saying believe and be saved they were primarily referring to a physical destruction that was coming to the physical nation of the Jews, who were being disobedient. They were "the chosen" and they were abusing it to their own advantage, they had defamed Gods name among the nations and were rejecting their Messiah - their deeds were evil and that is why they rejected him ...............

Not as a means of salvation but as a fruit of what Christ did. God sees us keeping the commandments because he sees Christ on the Cross, not what we do.

Hebrews 5:9 states, "And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him." Jesus Christ is the Savior of those who obey Him. This does NOT mean that our works save us. It means that if we claim to believe in Christ, we are expected to show our faithfulness to Him by our obedience. It means walking the walk, not just talking the talk.

Hilgi,

i would disagree with that

Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Joh 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

Legoman,

How do you come to the conclusion that "Christ did not want people to understand the kingdom?"
