How's the area around Philadelphia Zoo?

Also, Bronx Zoo is surrounded by a botanical garden, a park, a university and working and middle class neighborhoods--so not really a ghetto.

The Fort Worth Zoo is in a suburban-ish setting, across the street from the Colonial Country Club & Log Cabin Village, just up the street from TCU and not too far from the museum district and downtown.

Our zoo isn't anything close to a ghetto...

Portland's Zoo is in a very rich part of the city.

Depends. The Philadelphia Zoo is on the edge of Fairmount Park nestled between the Schuylkill River and Amtrak/SEPTA/CSX train tracks.

Go North? You're in Fairmount Park West

Go West along Girard Ave? You're in a rundown ghetto neighborhood known as Parkside.

Go South? You're in the gentrifying Mantua neighborhood and then into Powelton Village and University City.

Go East along Girard? You cross over the Schuylkill and into Fairmount Park East and then into the gentrifying Brewerytown neighborhood.

depends on what part you are taking about. The south ends of the Bronx are ghetto. You are correct on the other sides.

Depending on which side you are on. The ghetto side is probably south boarder of the zoo. Pelham would be the east side of the zoo which is a very nice area.

Yea, I guess the area around the southern border is pretty rough. I actually can't remember which entrance and neighborhood I went through to get to the zoo last year. I remember it seemed fine to me.

Chicago - Lincoln Park Zoo = one of the most affluent areas of town. Brookfield Zoo in the suburbs = next to Riverside with a median household income of $65K/year. There's a bunch of expensive homes there too (not overly expensive, but over $800K or $1M). Brookfield, IL has a median income of $52K/year. Then I guess you could count the Shedd Aquarium which is next to Soldier Field and the South Loop which has a lot of expensive condos and some mansions not far away too.
