New Orleans has most unique vibe of any US city I've been to. The French influence has a lot to this. San Francisco would be a far second to me.

I don't think people are saying it's that great (I hope not) I think they are just saying it's "different" and an odd ball out from most other places. I think NYC though is our only real behemoth city to that level, while somewhere like maybe Savannah, Baton Rouge, Charleston share some of N.O. characteristics.

New Orleans is the easy answer for me (and apparently a lot of other people). It feels so different from anywhere else.

One of the things I thought about was if I was instantly transported to a city, how long would it take me to figure out where I was. Second tier would be Miami, San Fran, New York, and DC. Every US city offers something unique, but some places are just so different from anywhere else.

I think overall the South has more Character than most of the North and West.

For smaller cities I agree with you (Charleston, Savannah, numerous other little places), but not for larger cities.

IMO the largest cities in the South (Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Charlotte) don't have as much character as those in the North (NYC, Philly, Boston, DC, Baltimore) or the West (LA, San Fran, San Diego).
