My heart hurts to hear about the tragedies today in my native home city and it's pretty hard not to take it personally. The Boston Marathon is such a spirited and highly esteemed event that has been a tradition for over a century. Sending my sincere love and prayers to Boston!

Who are you to make such a trite and bitter judgment and then call Boston a closed minded city? Boston welcomes visitors and students from all over the world to its historical sites and world renowned universities. The history and tradition do influence quality of life for those that are open to it due to the unique and uncommon atmosphere of the city itself and a strong sense of spirit. I can think of several politicians from certain locales that are nothing short of war criminals but I don't judge a whole city/region/state based upon that, let alone one that is already 6 feet under and tied to an incident that happened over 40 years ago. Boston isn't for everyone and I certainly understand that but to say a city is not worthy of respect over a single politician is very limited and small minded. You clearly don't know very much about Boston and there is irony and hypocracy in your own judgment of closed mindedness.
Oh and one more thing, I'm very proud of the first responders and volunteers in Boston that were helping heal wounds and save lives on Boylston Street today. I have a lot more RESPECT for my hometown today.

I prefer the weather, culture, history, urbanism, transit, schools, healthcare, family focus, scenery, amenities, economy, etc. to Atlanta's. It's an easy choice for me based on my personality, likes, and preferences.
Atlanta by miles...... something about Boston rubs me the wrong way, kind of the same way NYC does

Atlanta, on the other hand is pretty openminded and friendly. Very diverse place and reminds me somewhat of Houston which is also one of my favorite cities.
Don't really care about public transportation and density. I love to bicycle so those things mean little
Since you have asked people to make compelling arguments, feel free to elaborate as to why you feel Boston is close minded.
Don't Boston have a CSA of 7 million people though? I think csa population is also a factor.
Yeah, I'd call Boston the bigger city, even if its MSA isn't larger than Atlanta's. Boston is a bigger city within a 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 miles perimeter......just maybe not 50 or 60 miles, at which point I don't care about that portion of the population as it relates to a city.
