If MUSC offers accreditted medical degrees, how can it be less than other medical universities. It is the same degree. A school in Chicago is not teaching a higher level of medicine to students.

The point is to do medical research. If a college is doing medical research, how can it be less than another college that is doing medical research. who decides what medical research is more important?
Oh right, next you'll be saying a Harvard Medical School or Johns Hopkins-educated MD is no better than some Caribbean medical school graduate. Are you still in high school?

And do you really want to make the argument that Charleston is better for those who aren't good enough to get a job in Chicago? I don't think that's what you're trying to say.
My point is millions of people are applying to jobs in Chicago. Obvoiusly only one person will be hired for a single job. Why do I meet people from NYC and CHicago and Boston in SC, if the job market is so great in Chicago. They have good degrees and work experience. Most of them like it here better.

the point is that your chances of getting a good job that you want in any city in the country is low. and people who grwo up in SC and went to college here have more connections, so it is actually easier for us to get a job in SC than it would be in Chicago.

I would not be surprised if Charleston has more electronics and software related jobs than Chicago, or at least on the same level.

Or you'll be ranking medical schools without a medical degree like you are an expert on it.

You are advertising, for free, colleges that do not employ you, and ones that you did not attend.

I believe that if you are going to rank medical colleges, say one is better than another, at the very least you should have a degree in medicine. I don't see how people in medicine can even rank colleges, given most of them only go to one.

this is like people ranking Japenense restaurants, none of which they have ever dined at, and they have never had Japenese food in their life. lol

Maybe there are people out there who say, I can't move to Charleston b/c it doesn't have a top 10 medical research university, MUSC doesn't cut it. lol

You can move wherever you want.

Clearly you aren't in the medical profession, so as I said before, it shouldn't really make a difference to you either way. What I did say, was that IF you are in the medical profession, these rankings do make a difference, and they do exist. Either you are incapable of understanding my point, or you are willfully misinterpreting it. Either way, I don't see any point in continuing this discussion.

And by the way, I never said I didn't have a medical degree, but I don't plan on posting my entire CV here on city-data, so make of that what you wish.

Ok, well I know people with degrees from MUSC, and not sure how their lives would be different with degrees from another college. Maybe they would have even more money.

There are only so many medical schools in this country.

If I'm not mistaken, MUSC is the oldest one in the south.

This has been an extremely civil and informative discussion, but I have decided neither Charleston nor Chicago fit my criteria and I will be moving to Jacksonville as it's clearly superior to both

You must have been typing in a hurry and mist-typed. Surely you meant to say you are not sure how any old person chooses Chicago over Charleston, right? Young people are attracted to big cities, hustle & bustle, nightlife, and lots of singles. Retirement-age people are attracted to genteel cities, with slow pace and mild climate.

Agreed. The weather and beach aren't everything. Those two things can't help young people find everything else that they are looking for.
