Exactly...I've been scratching my head trying to understand why all this hate from people from Houston... I am well aware of both Houston and Dallas economic importance, i just don't get why Austin success bother's texans so much.
Ever seen Cinderella? Why is she getting all that attention. It's not fair, I think I'm gonna start hating on her.
I don't think it bothers anyone. I do think there's a misconception that Austin is somehow on a Dallas or Houston level though. I think that's what appears to be defensive, is just people trying to clear up that misconception.
But Austin doesn't want to be like Dallas or Houston. That city has been anti growth since forever. It grows in spite of itself.

I don't think Austin wants to be Dallas or Houston, even though I feel like downtown Austin is starting to feel more like Uptown Dallas every time I go down there.
San Antonio is actually more culturally rich than Dallas, Houston, and Austin; that's obvious.

There's a lot of new towers going up for sure, but I don't blame that on Austin citizens. It's the greedy real estate developers. But the skyline looks great. I saw a pick of the current skyline compared to 2010. Incredible.
San Antonio is the only Real City in Texas and the only one (maybe besides Austin) To have a True Identifiable Culture in Texas ,everything else is either big bland mega huge suburban metroplex or a hipster college town. Austin Alone is Not the model to follow in Texas and from what I hear doesn't want to be, However if San Antonio AND Austin Metros ever merged, Now That, That would be a model to follow

Imo, this is true. It's the only city in Texas with a traditional core.
