Quality of life: Georgia? Maybe?
Recreational activities: Virginia
Education/Schools K-12: Virginia
Universities/ Research institutions: Virginia

Politics: Virginia by far. Georgia is way too backwards.

Id say Virginia. For me.
Economy is GA, GA has some of the best roads in the country and much better than VA's....I think VA edges GA because of education and QOL. Politics are pretty close in these two states with VA being slightly more purple.
A very simple question, as of 2020, and throughout the decade, which state is/will be best overall, Virginia or Georgia?
That was an interesting exercise for me. I absolutely love Georgia and recently considered relocating there, but (much to my surprise), I think one could argue that Virginia is better in every single measure.
Mind you this is statewide...for which Georgia is largely uplifted by Atlanta being such a heavyweight. I gave careful consideration to areas outside Atlanta (which comprise half of the state population). Therefore I think Virginia wins across the board.
Cities-GA
Economy-GA
QOL-GA
Recreation-GA
Education schools-VA
Universities-GA
Culture Diversity-VA
Politics-GA seems like VA has has some really bad scandals over the yeaes lately
Infrastructure/transportation-GA.VA roads are not good
Airports-Statewide VA
Overall tie.I could live in either but its colder in VA so id pick GA
Virginia by a country mile.
VA is ranked 7th nationally for k-12, GA 30th
VA has always been the most moderate of the Southern States, it is rapidly becoming one of the most progressive states in the country. GA just stole the governorship from Abrams.
VA has better recreation and better cities (Atlanta is better than any single city in VA but Fairfax and Arlington are basically Atalanta but Washington DC as a core city beats Atlanta soundly).
VA’s economy is better (much higher per capita GDP, much lower inequality, Virginia’s are wealthier and less poor than the folks in Georgia.
Obesity, infant mortality, diabetes rates are all much lower in Virginia.
Georgia is cool, very evocative. Savanna and Atlanta are brilliant places. Coastal GA is beautiful and interesting.
Virginia is just prettier and more robust overall.

Agreed. That said, if GA can get its inequality issues, school issues, QOL and political issues on the right track, it definitely could give VA a run for its money.
Actually universities are more like 9th (VA) and 25th (GA).
