Las Vegas defines what is "cool" [gambling\ shows\ food\ women\ pool parties] but Palm Springs is cool also in a kind of sophisticated way. If you go into the desert during summer it is better in Vegas

Why is this? I mean, there is some great beauty there, but doesn't have major league sports franchises like Phoenix does. I also apologize to any Tucson people on this thread...I have a habit of spelling it with the s first.
I too prefer ABQ to the others. Why? Its quieter. I love New Mexico, too. Yes it lacks many things the other big cities have, but if Im gonna move from someplace like Chicagoland to the desert Southwest, it would be to get away from the major city life. Vegas is tacky, Phoenix is too hot and boring, Tucson is a dump for the most part and the other desert cities are just either too small and weird or dangerous. ABQ has the best climate of them all, the best scenery, and is much more down-to-earth, which is something Ill look for when I retire.

its not all about having sports franchises, its about how you feel and your comfort level in the city. To me ABQ fits me perfect and If I didnt live here I would pick it over all the others easily, but then again I would pick almost any city over the ones you posted except ABQ.
ABQ does all right the way it is,its slowly progressing though. We still feel like a small town and the people act that way too. The people are laid back and down to earth. We have activities to keep us busy here and our college sports and minor league sports does it for now since not many could afford to attend PRO sports anyways.
ABQ scenery is alot more attractive, we have a 10,000+peak mountain on the edge(eastside) of the city and a desert on the westside, you got both landscapes in one city plus we have the worlds largest cottowood forest in the middle of the city along with a river that flows through the middle of the city. What other desert city has that? I think its a little more greener here and we have more trees than the others.
Our weather is better also and more temperate. Phoenix may have better winters but are aint bad either plus we get to see a little snow here and there which is nice. We dont have the traffic issues Vegas/Phoenix has or the drug/cartels problems that Tucson/Phoenix has either.
Phoenix is ok for sports but after you get out of the game you are still in that crappy city so thats no good.
ABQ also has more of the true Southwestern feel than the other cities have,Tucson is similar though. ABQ is over 300 years old, there is lots of history here.
