I'm not talking about cities - there are numerous statistics pointing out that Detroit, Flint, East St Louis are pretty bad- so here I'm looking for specific neighborhoods. I'll put it in a poll too for fun but will the the very first to admit I am leaving out some areas and misnaming others.

Let's define dangerous.

"The neighborhood where one would most likely be subject to violent crime or the threat thereof at any hour of the day"
Laredo Texas...but they are getting lots of profits from Detroit.

I played a football game in East St. Louis two years ago and our team bus needed a police detail to guide us to the stadium. That was pretty bad. Vacant lots and rundown buildings everywhere you could see.

However, in Chicago, 63rd st between Ashland & the Dan Ryan expressway is still the scariest area I've ever been in. Whatever you do, don't go there at night. There's shootings everyday within a few sq miles.

Um, not trying to just call you out here, but could you please explain further? What league, where, etc. They "needed" a police detail?

Illinois high school state playoffs. First round. Two squads, in the front and back of the coach bus.

East St. Louis takes their football verrrrryyyy seriously. Multiple kids from their team end up a high-profile D1 schools seemingly ever year.

EDIT: We got smoked by the way (55-7). I've never seen a team so fast in my life.

Irvington New Jersey had the highest crime rate in New Jersey for several years (it still might for all I know). It even rated lower on the quality of life scale than Camden, and that's saying something. I've never been to Irvington, but to outrank Camden it must have some serious problems.

Otherwise, I think East Saint, North St. Louis, Chicago's West Side, parts of west Detroit, East Oakland, Opa Locka and Overtown in Miami would definitely be on my list of neighbourhoods to avoid. And I make it a point to explore cities, not just stick to touristy and high-income areas. But I really wouldn't visit any of these areas unless I had a damn good reason.

Weekends are terrible. It's going to be another hot summer in Chicago.

I have visited Hunts Point a few times on foot and it definitely has lots of drug activity going on. Lots of action on just a few small residential blocks. I imagine it would not be pretty on a warm summer's night.

Why did you need the escort? In general high school football/large groups of teenagers tend to result in a police presence in case something happens, but I've certainly never seen an escort... It certainly wasn't needed, no not even in E. St. Louis... None of the other teams buses seem to have any issues all season long... What am I missing here?
