That description would be more appropriate for DC circa 1990, not DC circa 2010.

Not saying the city is a dump or anything. I am just saying that while Georgetown/Dupont/Capitol Hill are interesting places to spend a day or two, I wouldn't travel across the world just to see them.

Well, for that matter neither is Greenwich Village, the UWS or SoHo, at least in and of themselves. You travel to a city because of the comprehensive suite of attractions and diversions it offers.

Would I recommend that someone from Paris travel to DC simply to spend an afternoon strolling through Georgetown? Of course not. But add imminently walkable and vibrant neighborhoods like G-town, Dupont, Capitol Hill, Penn Quarter, Logan and Adams-Morgan, with the seemingly endless abundance of cultural attractions located here (the world's largest library, largest museum complex, largest Shakespeare Theatre Company, and so on) to go with the proliferation of memorials, monuments and parks, and you very much have a destination city.

And Miami doesn't even come close to the numbers of Europeans that visit Orlando.
according to the traveler's digest.com it does:

3. Miami, Florida (2.2 Million Arrivals)
Proving that Florida isn't jus Disney World, Miami is ground zero for Europeans on a package-holiday, it seems as if every European has at one time or another taken a vacation package to Miami.

next is:

4. Orlando, Florida (1.8 Million Arrivals)
Disney World is maybe the largest attraction in the world, receiving visitors from every nation on earth. It's every kid's paradise, & every adult's childhood dream.

Miami's airport ranks 2nd. or 3rd. in the amount of international arrivals as well.
