24 million in NYC metro
18 million in LA metro
17 million in Lagos metro
And obviously Lagos is a desperately poor city with a comparatively tiny economy relative to that of NYC or LA. We are talking population AND economy.
If Lagos were twice the size of NYC and LA, and had twice the economy of NYC and LA, then your analogy would make sense. But, given the reality, it's an absurd analogy.
Actually no its not smaller because the population of Lagos in 2011 was 11.2 million according to UN sources and I was talking about the city proper. Nowhere in my post did I talk about the metro area. As for the economy Nigeria is not as poor as you think it is. It is Africa's soon to be first largest economy. (Incase you missed my post about how Chicago ranked as the worlds ninth most important financial center according to Xinhua-Dow Jones International Financial Centers Development Index then drop the GDP argument cause we are done with it)
Exactly I made the same point earlier, Chicagoans need to realize they're only the big dogs in Midwest, SF bay area, DMV, DFW, and even Houston are and have been closing the gap, I would say that Chicago has dropped to 5th most important after NYC, DMV, LA, SF/bay.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the return of dementor in his 800th alias
Ok Standard111 and dispo4 listen up. Just because the GDP is large does not make it as powerful as other cities. The reason Chicago matters so much is not because of the GDP but because of the financial institutions (specifically the Chicago Board of Trade and Chicago Mercantile Exchange) are among the, if not the, most important in the world. Chicago has a much larger dictation of the world market than LA.
