uhh did people forget this is a R&B thread too?? I think Philly and Detroit hold the top position over any of these cities, even NYC. Detroit has Motown(pause).....also present day artists like Dwele (a personal fav), Amp Fiddler and Platinum Pied Pipers. Then there is Philly which I think is the top dog for R&B in this country. Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Bilal, Boys ll Men, Blue Magic, Patti LaBelle and The Roots to name a few and trust me there are tons more. Both Detroit and Philly has amazing hip hop as well

Regarding Hip Hop, NYC hands down. Not only does NYC pump out most of the time quality hiphop artist but also the veterans still remain a dominent presence throughout the media. Lets just all be glad that all of our cities contributed something to form such enjoyable genre of music.

Does Nicolay reside in NYC now? I think this dude is the most skilled producer right now for melodic hip hop. I love his stuff with Von Pea, Phonte on the mic, etc.

I was going to say NYC then I ended up saying L.A.! lol Tupac is from NYC, lived in Baltimore, Repped the Bay Area, and ended up loving L.A. at the end of his career, so I put L.A.! Tupac is the greatest rapper ever!!!!!!!!!! Once I create my hip-hop album I plan to put Baltimore on the MAP!

Aint that the truth about ATL! Atlanta has a some great rappers, but all the wack rappers come from there too! If you ever want to become a one-hit wonder move to ATL and you are sure to become popular! LOL

that's an opinion that as you can see, many agree with me on. What flavor of club music are they adding? In the 80s, Atlanta basically borrowed Miami's style. In this decade, Atlanta basically borrowed Memphis style. The club music is fine. However, when it comes to lyricism, Atlanta takes a back seat. club music belongs in the club and nowhere else. Not to mention like someone else did, the multitude of one-hit wonders that has come from this city over the past 10 years and all of them are in the club.

Come on now, St Louis?

Where's the Bay Area???? Oakland, Richmond, SF, Vallejo put out some of the best hip-hop out there in the 80's and 90's.

Not to mention 2pac began his career and got big in the bay area! (he moved to LA in '94)
