Once you take away the beautiful beaches and coastline and Mediterranean-looking hills and occasionally snow-capped rugged peaks on the northern horizon, what does Los Angeles really have?
It's basically Detroit with palm trees, at least that's what Don Draper said the other night. (I just wanted to use that line, I don't actually believe it)
Haha I wanted to use that line too! Note it was 1969 Detroit he was talking about.

Yeah, and in the same episode Pete Campbell said the Detroit Airport circa 1968 looked like Calcutta. I guess Detroit didn't really hit the skids until the 70s though...
"Detroit with palm trees" though is now one of my favorite city put-downs on a TV series along with the time a character on the Sopranos referred to Boston by saying "That place is Scranton...with clams".
This is like me asking: "Which city has better public transit, LA or Chicago?"
If you have even the slightest of knowledge about either city, the answer should be obvious...
Way to bring up a thread from before I was even born.
If you dropped me on the side of the Chicago river or even up in Lincoln Park.... Chicago would win due to the man made awe.
But even a ghetto basic neighborhood in LA that is elevated will beat Chicago due to just being able to see a lot more.
Like the Pino in East L.A. sitting atop of a hill

Yeah I hate bumping threads, but I saw this in the "Similar Threads" section and thought it was a ridiculous question. Had to say something lol
Overall, LA pretty easily. If you are limiting to “downtown scenery,” I prefer Chicago, but overall scenery (palm trees, mountains, water, etc)- LA takes it.
