I agree with you as Key West is about 125-150 miles southwest from Downtown Miami.
It's funny how people on his thread just go straight with PR or Hawaii and forget about Key West. Key West has just as much of a right to win this thread as Honolulu or San Juan PR. And I don't know if US territories even count on this thread.
Yes but Miami is 2 degrees above the Tropic of Cancer and nutation causes fluctuations in the earths axial tilt which can cause tropic zones to shift north and south 2.5-3 degrees, Miami can be within the Tropic zone at times.

PUERTO RICO IS FIRMLY IN THE TROPICS AND IS NOT AFFECTED BY ANY OF THIS. LOL!

I just wanted to add to this…since I have been to Hawaii and Miami several times, and love tropical climates.
There really is not a huge difference in average mean (high/low) monthly temperatures between the Hawaiian Islands and Miami/Key West. The Hawaiian Islands are barley 2 – 3 F warmer in just January and February…after that most months are close to the same temperature, while summer is even a bit hotter in south Florida. Also, south Florida is more of a Aw climate (Tropical Savanna or Monsoon)….while the Hawaiian Islands are a little closer to an Af climate (Tropical Rainforest). The only real difference is that Miami is subject to more extreme cold: A few nights a year…for a few hours... the low temperature might fall to 38 to 44 F (some years it never falls below 50 F). In the Hawaiian Islands…a few nights a year the temperature might fall to the 45 to 49 F range.
Also, while Miami technically is 125 –miles north of the Tropic of Cancer…there are many climates that are a few hundred miles south of the 23.5 line...that have colder winters than Miami/South Florida. Most people would consider Calcutta, India or Hanoi, Vietnam a tropical climate (lol) right. Well, Miami is WAMER in winter than North Vietnam or Calcutta at the head of the Bay of Bengal. So just because Miami is a 125 – miles or so north of 23.5…doesn’t preclude it from being tropical. Here is a comparison of Hilo, Calcutta… and Miami mean temps:
Finally, I don’t think it’s fair to use this winter to judge Miami’s climate. Many people are aware that it has been one of the coolest winters in 30 years in Miami. Additionally, “coolness” is relative term in south Florida: Take the current month of March…even though this has been the coolest March in 30 years…14 of the last 18 days the high temperature was above 70 F in Miami. Last March (2009) which was normal…the average high was 80 F. Where else on the USA mainland can say that?

The 41,000 year cycle is not from one extreme to the other, it is a complete cycle where at times the tilt is more and sometimes less.
Obviously this means way too much to you though so you just go ahead and rant some more. I guess you must be getting some kind of kick back from the gods of the tropics.
Miami all time recordlow 27 degreesFebruary 3 1917 to be exact.
HANOI AND CALCULTA ARE TROPICAL. WHY? THEY ARE BETWEEN 23.27 N AND 23.3 S ONLY THESE PLACES ARE TROPICAL.
TEMPERATURE DOES NOT MATTER ,POSITION DOES. (for example: Bermuda will NEVER be tropical, REGARDLESS of air temps )
LASTLY, HANOI AND CALCUTA ARE IN FACT WARMER THAN MIAMI
Miami is in a COLDER GROWING ZONE the 30-40 DEGREES ZONE
HANOI AND CALCUTA ARE 40 AND ABOVE- THE TROPICAL ZONE. THEY CAN GROW BREADFRUIT UNPROTECTED. THEY ALSO ARE IN THE TROPICAL ZONECOLD HARDINESS ZONE OF 40 AND ABOVE.
MOST IMPORTANTLY THEY ARE BETWEEN THE TROPIC OF CANCER AND THE TROPIC OF CAPRICORN, giving them tropical caliber sun strength, which MAKES THEM TROPICAL.
Give it up guys, all of you........
NO ONE has researched this as thoroughly as me ( Razwell) since August 2002.
Miami's UV is NOT tropical, nor are the air temperatures. Miami ALWAYS gets at least 40-45 EVERY WINTER. The past winters since 2003 it has been 38 and lower.
There is a REASON it CANNOT grow BREADFRUIT UNPROTECTED . There is a REASON Miami is in the 30-40 degree cold hardiness zone.
Miami is NOT the tropics and NEVER will be.
