There is no doubt. I guess we'll have to wait on the American Community Survey in a couple of years to correct the population. I honestly thought that it would be over 100,000 by now, with all of these new houses being built and people moving here.
As mentioned in the "Quad East" thread, Greenville now officially has it's long-awaited interstate connection to I-95.
During AASHTO's spring meeting earlier this year, they approved NCDOT's request to sign US-264 as I-587 between I-95 and Greenville. FHWA has also approved it. The rest of the corridor between I-95 and Zebulon will remain "Future I-587" until it's upgraded to interstate standards.
AASHTO has posted all the applications they received from various state DOT's for that meeting. NCDOT's application for I-587 can be seen on pages 99 thru 105:
Are there any updates on the Imperial site development? Also I noticed a lot of surface parking behind the new Bioscience building where I thought there was supposed to be a parking deck? I'm guessing both have been affected by COVID fallout and escalating material prices....
I don’t know if they’re tearing it down or what but the Circle K at highway 11 & Reedy Branch Rd is closed, has tape around the building and there’s a backhoe there.

It’s being torn down. Wonder what they’re building.
I reached out to NCDOT a few weeks ago in regards of I-587 and what might happen to US 264. I got a response today that they are indeed planning to submit a rerouting to US 264 and a elimination of US 264 ALT in the AASHTO Fall Meeting. They were even kind enough to share the draft files they plan to use in the upcoming meeting.
In the requests, they will relocate US 264 along existing US 264 Alt from Exit 51 south through Saratoga and Farmville, then in Greenville it will connect onto NC 11 Bypass north, a total of 26.43 miles relocation; that section of US 264 Alt will be eliminated.
The timeline after that depends on other factors, but they hope to have I-587 and US 264 signage done in 2022.
The vacant lot at the corner of Reade & Dickinson is under development. Silt fence is up and they’re working.
