Target is remodeling again apparently. There are banners out at the road that say they’re open and “something new is in store.”

As mentioned in the "Quad East" thread, Greenville now officially has it's long-awaited interstate connection to I-95.

During AASHTO's spring meeting earlier this year, they approved NCDOT's request to sign US-264 as I-587 between I-95 and Greenville. FHWA has also approved it. The rest of the corridor between I-95 and Zebulon will remain "Future I-587" until it's upgraded to interstate standards.

This is excellent news. I'd love to see a N/S interstate spur connection between future i-87 in Bethel and future I-42 in Kinston that runs through Greenville on the Hwy 11 bypass. Maybe even a full blown connection to i40 near Kenansville. A connection between all three interstates running through eastern NC.

I'm surprised there wasn't an attempt to squeeze that into the infrastructure bill that Congress is trying to pass, especially given that an earlier attempt was made shortly before the 2016 elections. Are Greenville and Kinston still pushing for that? Seems like there's been total silence ever since Allen Thomas and BJ Murphy left office.

That's a tall order, IMO.

Census shows Greenville at 87,521, a 3.5% increase. 2010 was 84,554. Estimates said in 2019 that Greenville was at 93,400.

The census numbers rank it 12th in the State behind now Concord and Asheville. The Metro is also 12th just behind Burlington.

Anyone else think Covid had a significant effect on the count with ECU students gone on April 1, 2020? Wilmington's number was 8K less than their 2019 estimate.

The state House passed it's 2-year budget, which includes $215 million for a new Brody School of Medicine.

Also, an investigation into a possible cancer cluster at the Brewster building at ECU is being called for after the deaths of 5 professors.

ECU should tear down Brewster and Christenbury and do something else with that space. That area has a prominent view from the road, but those buildings are both so drab. And apparently there's a silent killer in Brewster, so I wouldn't waste money on more studies into causes. Put that money into new blue prints...
