Hi all!

We are looking at relocating to colorado springs and wanted to know a little bit more about it (having never been there). We are mainly interested in knowing (as usual) which areas to steer clear off and which school district is the best. Also, we heard that the job market was pretty nice, any truth to this? (my husband is in IT and I am in HR). Thanks!

I have lived in Colorado Springs all of my life. It is beautiful! I sent you a private message. There are many places to live here, depends on your price range, what you are looking for as far as mountain, foothills, the plains.. etc. Let me know. SHEP

Shep,

I guess what we are looking for (priority) is a low to moderate crime level, good school for our little boy and low to moderate housing...I guess max would be $225-$250k...we're not interested in a McMansion or anything, a nice townhouse will do for us since we just want to be comfortable not trying to keep up with the Jones (which seems to be the IN thing here in Vegas). We're quiet people who like to keep to ourselves sometimes and do things as a family (I guess you can say we're very protective of each other). That pretty much sums our little family up.

Hey there-You could easily get into a home for that much money. No biggie at all. There are many areas in Colorado Springs that have great schools and are good areas. If you want to talk in more detail, then email me at bashep4@msn.com SHEP. I would be happy to help you out with that.

I lived in the Springs for 5 years in different parts of town (we were in our 20's, so moved around quite a bit as we got more "upwardly mobile"). Most of Colorado Springs is nice...the only area I'd recommend you totally avoid is the Southeast part of town (area near the airport).

The "best" school district is probably D-12 (Cheyenne Mountain, SW part of town) but homes are generally VERY expensive there. D-20 (Academy, North Side) also has good schools and would probably be more affordable for you.

Shep,

I saw your post about being familiar with the Colorado Springs area. I am looking to relocate there at the end of this school year. I am a teacher, and am looking for a young community in which I could rent a 1 bedroom apt. Do you have any suggestions for areas I should keep an eye out for? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Collette

There are a lot of places here that meets your criteria. Before someone replies with good targeted advice, use the search tool with keywords like: apartment or young or teacher, etc. Also check the index of threads. If you are looking for a teaching job, there are threads on teaching in both the COLO SPGS as well as the main COLO forum.

Terrierlover,

I saw that you teach in D-11 schools. I am a 2nd grade teacher in a Title I elem school in Alexandria, Virginia. I am looking to relocate to the Colorado Springs area. I struggled with the lack of parental involvement at my school, and am looking for something that fosters more of a community between parents and teachers. Do you have any specific recommendations as to where I should look? I figure I should start personally contacting a few principals in the area. I would LOVE to hear from you and get some insight. Thanks!

Collette

Collette, start looking actively for jobs around spring break and then follow your resume up with an email to the principal. There are several schools in our area that are title I, is that your desire? I teach in D8 which serves Fountain and Fort Carson. I would venture to say that the only district you don't want to apply to where you will continue to struggle for parent support is in D2-Harrison. You won't find title schools in D12 or D20, so you will need to apply for schools in D11, D49, D3, D8, and D14. When we get to spring break and you start searching, please post again and ask about specific schools so we can help you further. Just about every district also posts a salary schedule too.
