I've been in New Mexico the last couple days, left Albuquerque this morning about 7. Big winds from Farmington to Dove Creek. Came back up through Moab and got in the door a half hour ago. Get ready for some big time rain which no doubt will turn to snow by nightfall. Temp in Farmington was 71 degrees, and an hour and a half later in Dove Creek the temperature dropped 25 degrees. Steady, hard rain from the Crescent Junction turnoff all the way to my house.

Come on rain and snow--let 'er rip!!

My cousin just called me from Loveland and the artic front just hit them with a vengeance. So it looks like everything is setting up for the "perfect storm".

It was 70 degrees earlier today, then high winds, dark clouds and it's 55 now with no wind but heavy rain. I've been standing outside in the rain just enjoying it. It's been months since I've seen rain here. I hope it lasts more than two minutes.

Almost 80 here today in Pueblo. I had the A/C on in my SUV lol

Also there had been a slight but important modification to the Blizzard Warning. The NWS in Pueblo now includes the highway 50 corridor in its on air reports, they already included the southern Interstate 25 corridor from Colorado Springs to the New Mexico boarder. That means the low is moving a bit further south and if this is right Pueblo would be in the heart of the storm as it passes through.

Talking How does Colorado spell spring? S-N-O-W

Colorado, and Pueblo, has already made the LA Times because of this storm. I happen to google Pueblo and blizzard and this is what came up.

This is from the LA Times:

The calendar says it's spring, but that doesn’t mean snow season has ended, based on a blizzard warning from the National Weather Service for parts of Colorado.

“The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a blizzard warning ... which is in effect from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. MDT Tuesday,” the service said on its website. Among the areas near Pueblo that could be hit are northern El Paso County, Palmer Lake, Monument, Black Forest, Peyton and Calhan. The area around the Air Force Academy also could see snow.

The link: How does Colorado spell spring? S-N-O-W - latimes.com

As a side note. The homer in me likes how they talk about southern Colorado.

The grand valley has been locked into a pattern referred to by Double H as the 50-50-50 triple play. 50 drops of rain, 50 snowflakes, and 50 mph winds. This one has the signature of yet another 50-50-50 triple play.

From the far north end of COLO SPGS, near the USAF Academy...

Temp at 7PM was 60F, then we could see the front coming down over the Palmer Divide, wind picked up and is now hammering away with gusts up to 40MPH. Temp down to 40F by 8PM. No precip yet, just a lot of dusty air moving around.

Non-event for us ... not enough snow to cover the lawn, and clearing skies to the East.

Pretty disappointing ... we were really counting on one last decent round of moisture before things heat up.

The low pressure is still at the 4 corners. So now the big question is how will it track? I'm hoping for a slight southern track over northern New Mexico close to Albaqurquie.

The deep area of low pressure has remained fairly stationary overnight. This has caused the cold temperatures to remain along the Wyoming/Colorado border as opposed to dropping southward as expected. Because of this, snow will start several hours later than originally thought. Gusty winds are still expected though as the pressure gradient remains tight. Moisture will continue to stream up from the south putting the areas south of the San Juans in a favorable area for snow accumulation. As such, a winter weather advisory has been issued for those areas for 3 to 5 inches of new snow through the day. Temperatures will continue to drop today with freezing temperatures expected for many areas overnight. The Freeze Warning remains in effect for the I-70 corridor from eastern Utah into the Grand Valley and down to Montrose and eastward to Paonia. The Blanding and Bluff areas in Utah also have a freeze warning in effect for tonight.
