The election turned out to be about 51.6% for Polis and 45% for Stapleton which is a good deal closer than our poll for this thread.

I'll wait a couple days then close the thread as a completed topic, so get your final comment in now.

My take is I'm disappointed at NO votes on school and road items as these issues directly affect / improve the quality of life at the local level a lot more than national policies on Barn Swallows, Snail Darters, Spotted Owls, Prebles Meadow Jumping Mouse, etc. Colorado schools will continue to be in the 'also ran' category among states and the gridlock and lousy roads will continue to make daily life suck for everyone. We're getting nuts as a nation when we keep spending on ever better homes and cars but not the public aspects of our lives.

I was disappointed that Prop. 112 failed, but overall, I am happy with the results. How cool that we're the first state in history to elect an openly gay man as governor.

Coloradoans have always been a level headed bunch and I'm glad we delivered a message to the current presidential administration in more ways than one.

Happy that the crap that 74 would have brought didn't pass.

Don't understand why people voted down 73 when it would effect only a tiny percentage of individuals.

I thought it was funny that the national news is going bonkers over that Polis is gay. Maybe I just didn't pay much attention to it, but ... I didn't even know that? It was a non-issue for me, and for a lot of people, I'm assuming. A good thing, imo, that it is a non-issue for Coloradans, meaning I imagine not many people made it a reason to vote for/against him.

Kindergarten is now considered an academic year, with kids expected to learn how to read by the time the finish that year, so yes, preschool has a large academic component to get them to readiness to be reading in kindergarten.

If that's the case, then pre-school should be part of public school.

All Polis' free pre-school proposal would accomplish is free daycare, but nothing's really free, except to those who don't contribute to the system.

As a republican, I’d like to thank all the democrats that voted against all the tax amendments. I’m a little surprised. I really expected to be paying more taxes next year, especially from 73 passing.

LOL, yeah! I'm gay. One person actually came up to me today, at work, to ask if I was 'proud and excited' about our new governor. While her question was well-intentioned, I simply said, 'no.'

I didn't vote for him, though I hope he does a good job, for the sake of everyone who lives here! But on a more important level, there's more to me than that. I'm not going to vote for another gay person simply because I'm gay. I think like most people, many of us make decisions about voting based on who has the most compelling platform and who we think would do the best job vs something more trivial like sexual orientation.

Cowboy, I hear ya, but why vote for a party that we KNOW is intent on working against your interests and civil rights? That Polis won is a shot in the arm for strong civil rights for all in Colorado. All the other bickering over taxes, schools and roads is a case of how to skin the cat to get it done and not about tearing down schools or digging up roads.
