About the only good thing weather wise I can say is that the wind hasn't been gusting to 30-40-50 miles an hour. But precip wise it is worrisome. We could sure use some storms over here that is going on around the front range, minus the golf ball size hail, of course.

Happy Colorado Day. The state legislature created Colorado Day to mark the anniversary of statehood, granted in 1876 by President Ulysses S. Grant. FREE admission to state parks Monday August 7th.

Renewed my car registration online on Wednesday night. Got the new registration in the mail already. Usually that takes 10-14 days.

Our process for getting new plates kinda sucks. You buy the car from the dealer, and then you have to count on the dealer sending the sales tax and title data to the assessor's office in a tiimely manner. The assessor's office then sends you a title complete notice, and then you can register the car and get your plates. I'm pretty sure when we lived in Texas we got our plates in the mail 4-6 weeks after the dealer sale without having to go through the BS rigmarole we do here. Our dumbass process is responsible for a lot of the expired temporary tags on the roads. It needs to be streamlined.

I’ve gone in to the DMV before getting the post card. If I am getting close to the end of the temp tag, I just take care of it.

I've been looking for homes in the Colorado Springs area, specifically zip code 80927 and it lists the fire danger in that area as "extreme". I've been there to visit my son and didn't notice anything in that area (Banning Lewis Ranch) that would suggest a high fire danger. Anybody know?

Pretty much anywhere in Colorado carries some level of heightened wildfire risk at this point. There's nothing particularly bad about that area as far as I can see, but based on satellite maps I would imagine the risk assessment is due to the potential for grass fires during extreme wind and very dry conditions (think the Marshall Fire that devastated Superior in 2021). You don't have to be in dense trees to be at risk of a wildfire these days.
