Seems impossible but less than 6 inches at DIA and most of it late yesterday. The cancelations were really not necessary. Just makes you wonder the logic of collecting the "official" weather stats at the airport when no one lives there and its only part of the city on a technicality. Out in the rest of the city where the people actually live and have to deal with the weather a foot of snow or more was pretty common.

Fox Weather says Nederland has received 53 inches of snow since Wednesday night. More coming.

Airlines have been burnt too many times by trying to push flights during a snow storm, then people get made because they get stranded at an airport and crews get displaced, causing more problems. There is also the staffing issue. If the staff can't get to the airport because they live in an area getting dumped on, that will impact operations too.

Maybe airlines are starting to get wise and realize it's better to delay things for a few days.

I'm aware of why they do it as I use that airport about 30 times a year. I'm glad I wasn't out trying to get there on Thursday. I'm not saying they should have changed it, just saying the cancelations turned out to not be necessary. And the idea of keeping the official weather there is silly, its so not representative of the city of Denver when its basically where Commerce City and Brighton meet at its northern edges.

Its just they built it massive with the idea they could land planes almost normally in typical winter storms here with the spacing of the runways and the world's largest de-ice fleet. And yet they cancel and delay flights at the same rate as the other big airports now, that benefit went away pretty fast.

Well, I think we're done with this storm (I think) but that only pertains to Mesa county. This has been quite a weather system! The Denver area was anywhere from 8 to 12 inches, Boulder 1 to 2 feet, Nederland 50 inches, Castle Rock 18 inches, Colorado Springs (Black Forest)-20 inches, Central City 40 inches, Evergreen 26 inches.

The rest of the state varied--Alamosa 7 inches, Glenwood Springs 3 inches, Eagle 5 inches, Red Mountain Pass 5 inches, Fairplay 20 inches, South Park (Eleven Mile Reservoir) 22 inches.

Default Snow!

This is what I got here in Manitou Springs - can't wait to see how the trees will fair when relieved of their heavy load. How about the rest of you - any photos to share?
