As a moderate, strident conservationist Teddy Roosevelt Republican, I have very mixed feelings about what happened--both nationally and in Colorado--last night. But there is a great irony about Colorado turning "blue" and it is this:

For many years, the developer and real estate industries--dominated by conservative, anti-regulation and anti-environmental people (especially when it came to anything being done to regulate their own activities)--tirelessly promoted population growth in Colorado because it served their own self-interests. The irony in their success in doing that was that a) many, if not most, of the people who moved in tended to liberal; b) the industries that benefitted from that type of growth--recreation and construction--tended to attract a lot of new immigrant workers (both legal and illegal) who tend to support liberal Democrats when and if they can vote; and c) a lot of otherwise politically conservative long-time Coloradans--sick of out-of-control growth and the resulting loss of quality of life--swung over to vote for candidates who they perceived to be more activist in protecting the environment, most of them being liberal Democrats. So, the irony is that, while the conservative developers and real estate folks feathered their own financial nests with the growth they promoted (not to mention being a big part of the speculative horse**** that helped blow up and then burst the biggest bubble in America's economic history), they sowed the seeds to emasculate their own political base. It certainly was many of the "newbies" to Colorado who stepped into the booth and pulled the lever, touched the screen, or punched the card to turn Colorado blue, but--if the conservatives want to blame somebody for that outcome--they should look in their own camp and see who "invited" all of those people here.

The Blue, although the wacko religious right has managed to gain quite a stronghold in Ohio.

Why can't the goverment just leave me alone to do as I please?

Oh well, at least Issue 50 passed here. Now I can go blow all my money in Cripple Creek.

Oh and nice post Jazz! I nominate you for '2012

Sarah Palin and "Joe the Plumber" was the best the GOP could bring?

They deserved to lose this election on those 2 cards alone.

Ain't no secret that lefties from the East & West coasts have been flocking to Colorado for years...

My guy lost, let's give 'The Messiah' a chance and see what he's really all about, eh? Time to tighten my belt, pull up the bootstraps, and hide my guns...gonna be an interesting ride!

LOL! That's why the yuppies call it "Boulder Republic". However no need for all the spent emotions Ryan, besides some tax increases, I don't think the next 4 years will be much of a change than the past 4. But there certainly is a valid point about transiency changing the politics of Colorado (not just Californians) and part of the reason is we Coloradans are at fault as well - we were TOO LAID BACK and just sat around and watched it all happen.

There are still a few red states left for you my friend, Utah comes to mind, isn't it really just an inside-out Colorado?
I'd go with Montana, it'd be the closest state what Colorado was 20-40 yrs back.

Thank goodness CO will not be lumped in with places like Utah, Kansas, Wyoming, and the Dakotas.......

Change is what we need and the people's voices have been heard!!

Very true. I guess just don't try to mess with my guns, or whoever does will find out what the second amendment is all about!
