What an unimaginative design. Quite underwhelming.
That area is pretty underwhelming as is, so as dull as the design is, it's definitely an improvement. I also wonder if something edgier might face opposition by the Olympia crowd.

Did anyone else miss that they're building a huge section of the greenway?
Newk’s on Gervais in the Vista next to twisted spur has closed. So now there’s a few vista restaurant vacancies : Tim Lizzy’s, Bay leaf. Great sized space, could see see a Charleston restaurateur hang up a shingle

That's too bad; Newk's is good but it's not so different from Jason's Deli so I'm not too surprised.
Anyone else feel like 3 things should happen in the Vista?
my 3 ideas is...
1. Expansion of the Convention Center
2. Build a mid to high rise hotel attached to the Convention Center
3. a Sky tower or Giant Wheel people could go up to the Top to get a full overview over the city.
The one with the Convention Center hotel. I feel there should be Skywalk connections from the Garage at the current hotel to the Convention center and a skywalk connection for the new one for the expansion if not then Built directly on top of the expansion.
I feel a Ferris Wheel would be better than a tower but a nice Centerpiece Tower in the heart of the Vista would be nice also. it would be nice to have it behind the Convention Center and the Tower or Wheel would have a entertainment hub on the ground floor. Retail, movie theater, kids area etc.

I can't imagine a sky tower or giant wheel. Just can't imagine people paying $20 per person often enough to justify it. There isn't anything to see going high. Just sprawl of water and cell phone towers.
Do we need more hotel space in Columbia? Don't see enough visitors for that.
And is our Convention vacate often enough because of lack of capacity?

Not that the convention center is vacant but we do have the smallest in the state and one of the smallest in the southeast. So we miss out on many conventions and shows. So I’d agree with Growingup on and expanded convention center.
But we need more permanent, year-round, residents in the vista before we add more hotels.
