We are moving to Columbus in June. When we visited in April we really liked Upper Arlington and Bexley...

Are there other assessments (on top of property taxes) we should be aware of such as a local car tax or school fees?

Would one school district or the other be an easier adjustment? (I have a tween and a 4th grader) Easier to make friends? Does one district have more incoming/outgoing students than the other?

Do both middle schools have Latin as a language option in 7th grade? Do you know what curriculum they use? (this is really important to the tween... silly, I know, but he has his heart set on Latin)

Thanks!

The biggest difference between the school districts is the size. Upper Arlington is more than twice as big. As such, there are more elementary schools, two middle schools as opposed to one, and a high school that has 1800 kids as opposed to 700 kids. Thus, it's probably easier to get to know a majority of the kids at a smaller district like Bexley, but I don't know if this equates to making it easier to meet friends.

Because both Bexley and Upper Arlington are older suburbs, both have a lot of families that have lived there for a generation or more and probably have less transient student populations than what you might find in some of the outlying suburbs. I'm not as familiar with the curriculums at the schools, but both school districts are excellent and your children will receive great educations.

For curriculum specific questions, I'd personally give a call to each district. I am sure they would be happy to answer the Latin questions.
