Please explain the bolded statement.

Speaking of viruses, Macs have fewer. Far fewer. That does not mean that Macs are necessarily "safer" than Windows. I personally do not know any Mac user, since 1998, who got a virus (unless the virus was able to run undetected?). Malware, maybe(?), but no specific virus or trojan. I do know a few Windows users who got viruses, but to be fair, they were all into heavily downloading stuff (music, movies, etc.), or they looked at porn.

Various reasons. Some like the "hipster" vibe, or the "youth" vibe associated with owning a Mac. Some like the OS or the design of the products. Some see it as a status symbol or as "being different" (not sure why anymore for each).

Personally, I use Macs, and will more-than-likely continue to use Macs, for the same reason that most people use Windows, and will continue to use Windows: it is what I am used to. I have been a Mac user since 1998, and have used every incarnation of OS X (and OS9, OS8).

There was a point in time when Macs where the de facto design platform, and they were marketed as such (Adobe, for example, originally produced their products for Apple). These days it doesn't really matter anymore as both platforms are capable. Since Macs can run Windows natively, and as such natively run all those Windows-specific CAD and 3D Drawing programs, the only reason to get a Mac for design would be if you specifically want to run a program that is designed specifically for Mac.

I would avoid getting a Mac if this is all you are going to do with it. While I believe they are worth the money in the long run, I don't think they are worth the money if all you are going to do is load a few games, Office, and Skype. There are plenty of non-gaming-specific PC laptops out there that can deliver what you want for less money.

We've run Macs for decades with the only problems being the hard drive after we've worn it out our a power supply for the same reason. To date that would be one hard drive and one power supply in about 30 computers over the years.

It doesn't matter which one lasts longer because you always need to upgrade electronics (for compatibility, features).

The one with the least amount of problems is the one with the most intelligent operator.

If you can fix the system by killing an app, then its not a Windows problem, its a crappy app. From what I've seen, having to force quit apps on macs is a pretty common occurrence too as is the beachball of death.
No, it's not bad, but our IT spends thousands of hours purging spyware, MS micro-viruses and the rest that plagues the PC. It's a constant battle.

I haven't had a single app locking-up my Macs. The apps that usually lock Windows on our computers often are MS ones. For example, online training classes created with Powerpoint at my school.

Not necessarily if you just want a computer for six years or so. The only thing that needs updating is the software. The OS is updated quite often, but other applications must be updated as well so it can work with the OS.

If they're spending that much time fighting spyware, they need better security policies.

Hyperbole.

Apple machines have a smaller market share, so fewer third party applications are available for it that are also available on a Windows OS. But Rich_CD makes a point.

I'd suggest the OP go ahead and price the Mac he wants for use but also to price a PC. Then reconsider being different or being practical. Do that for both laptop and desktop.

The OP already had a similar thread on this same topic and posted basically the same questions and remarks and then saying "I think I will go ahead and get the Mac." Here is the thread: https://www.city-data.com/forum/compu...t-macbook.html

Either the OP is just trolling to start the great Windows/Mac debate or otherwise has started another thread on the same topic instead of continuing discussion in the original.
