My pc is dying ~ I’m loosing the monitor video card (I think). I’ve changed monitors and I’m having the same trouble. ,,,,, Next I got’a get a new video card if I can find one for this old thing? If I’m not back and drop off for any length of time you’ll know that I’ve crashed.

Anyone know if I can buy a new video card at the 99cent store? Guess I’v got to find someplace else… for now I’m out to lunch and looking for a store.

There are several places that sell video cards that are compatible with older motherboards. If your computer is about 6 to 8 years old, you'll be able to find them at PC Club stores. If there isn't one in your area, check out their website: Windows Vista, Laptops, Computer Parts & Help, Notebooks, PC Repair | PC Club - Your Local Computer Partner

Another places to look into are smaller computer stores or repair shops, they stock new and used video cards for older equipment.

If the computer is much over 6-8 years old, it would be much cheaper to scrap it.

Find you a good solid barebones at some place like Tiger Direct and upgrade it to your specifications. Liz

I agree, I wouldn't spend any money on a computer that's older than 8 years old at the most. I know Dell and Compaq made good computers in 1999 and 2000 (With Pentium 3 processors) and those are the only ones I'd waste time fixing, otherwise, I'd donate it to Goodwill and get a tax deduction.

You can also do yourself a big favor by building a new computer yourself. With new ones you buy from Dell or HP/Compaq, they'll load them up with a bunch of garbage software and advertising you don't need. When you build it yourself, you'll pick exactly what you want and you'll have a computer that's not loaded down with garbage you don't need.

If you have a Fry's Electronics in your area, that's a good place to go to get high quality computer components.
