JV- here are two other options to consider as well...

Veterinary Oncology and Hematology Center - Our Veterinary Staff (http://www.oncovet.com/vohc-veterinary-staff.htm - broken link)
(Norwalk, CT)

24-hour emergency and specialty animal and pet services for RI, CT, MA - Ocean State Veterinary Specialists

Both do oncology for felines.

Good luck!

Oh man... sorry to hear this... I can relate big time. As an attached cat owner 3 times and currently attached dog person, I suffer seeing other animals suffer let alone my own.

"I can't go through a family photo album without him being in there somehow. "

That hit home because since 7 weeks old my dog has been everywhere I go for the past 8 years. She's my baby / queen..

I've also rescued about 7 loose dogs in past 3 years. I'll stop the world and focus on saving an animal. I have yelled and questioned people's negative actions towards them over the years as well.

I dont have any advice on this particular issue but just know... animals dont feel the "pain" we do, they feel discomfort, they know something is wrong, Something is negative...but they cope and deal with it... Many times animals heal and recover their own ailments but other times they need our help...

Most of the time our decisions are based for "our" mentality, not theirs. Meaning, we're suffering more then them, knowing or seeing something wrong.

I wish you & your family the best - just keep smileing at Leonardo, they need positive feedback..

Have you tried any Veterinary Universities? I grew up in Michigan and if we were there I'd recommend going to Michigan State for any animal. They have the best care in the Mid-west. Maybe there is a renowned Vet. school in the area? Just an idea.
Good Luck

Thanks for the reminder on thier mindset, you are correct it's easy to forget that they at times don't realize age or pain the way we do.

Thank you for the kind words.

No I hadn't thought about that. I'm going to look into UCONN since they are 20 minutes away and see what they have. Thanks for that!

Good luck with the cat! out of curiosity, which pet insurance company are you using? I am using PetPlan for my dog but am interested in what type of success others are having with others.

VPI pet insurance. Been with them for about 4 years or so. They are generally good on payouts so long as you provide enough detailed documentation.

This is the plan we have:

VPI Major Medical Plan

I have no advice to offer but I wish Leonardo the best. I hope he kicks cancer's a** and has a speedy recovery! Maine coons are awesome cats (never had one but know a couple), they really are unlike any other cat.

Oh, I am so sorry- I have gone through lymphoma with two dogs. All animal lymphomas are fatal with in a couple months to a couple of years or less. One dog did not respond to the initial chemo and so had to be put down. The other did respond and had a good quality of life for another year .

The chemo protocol is confusing- I made huge monthly charts of what meds had to be given daily in varying sequences over the course of the month.

Tufts University in North Grafton, MA ( easy trip for you) may be a good choice for a second opinion or for help with the chemo protocol. Top notch veterinary school there.

Once again, so sorry- it is sheer emotional hell treating an a pet when you already know what the otucome will be and you're just trying to hold back the inevitable as long as the pet feels OK.
