It's going to be about what I thought it seems, let's call it "Floyd +" or "Gloria minus". A significant disaster, but not "the apocalypse". (flooding and millions of power outages is a still major in my book).

By the way, interesting video that I think gets it right: AccuWeather.com - Weather Video - Irene Too Hyped from DC to Philly to NYC? (http://www.accuweather.com/video/90586657001/irene-too-hyped-from-dc-to-philly-to-nyc?.asp - broken link)

Looks like the path of Floyd, which went from Cat 1 to "high end Trop Storm" just south of Cape May (your map shows it landfalling on Atlantic City as a Cat 1 which would still be "a bit more than Floyd" and technically historic.....last NJ landfall as a hurricane was in 1903).

Keep in mind our watershed starts in Vermont and New Hampshire. Our rivers are already near capacity. River flooding is going to be immense.

To bring you up to speed with regard to your friends on LI: The Town of Islip was issued mandatory evacuations for the south shore areas which lay within the storm surge zone for a Cat 1 storm.

For those unfamiliar with LI: Islip Town is in south western Suffolk County.

Floyd was worse by me (southern Westchester) but I'm assuming for at least half of CT (and most of LI) Gloria was worse.

I was just hoping to get some trees cleared in my neighborhood as there is an AMAZING view of the CT River valley blocked by overgrown trees.

Wow...these totals would have been eye-catching even if they were snowfall projections!

Speaking of such...my wife is now convinced that snowstorms are completely harmless, compared to what a hurricane (or even tropical storm) is likely to do!

Well I guess this is what I was believing to be more to rain than wind. I'm very lucky I dont live on a flood zone
Expect 7-10 all the way up the state
