I think some parts of South Norwalk are actually pretty cool to live in.

Speaking for Manchester, crime rates are below national average, and much lower than some of the cities you associate it with.

are there any sizeable cities in CT that aren't at least somewhat ghetto? i find that pretty pathetic, for being the most wealthy state. goes to show that people with money don't support the community, besides putting their name on a stadium here or a bridge there.

While manchester has changed a lot in the last 10 years...it doesn't belong on that list. The downtown area is the only "bad" part of town and i wouldn't even call it bad. Its comparable to the downtown area of middletown without the good bar scene. Its full of decent residential areas where many seek out starter homes. Not to mention the upper middle to upper class areas bordering glastonbury, bolton, east hartford.

Bristol, Manchester, East Hartford, and West Haven are far from dangerous. The majority of communities in Connecticut, with a few exceptions, are significantly below the national average for crime statistics. Parts of New Haven, Hartford, Bridgeport, New Britain, Meriden, and Waterbury are dangerous at certain hours but even in those communities there are many calm areas.

Most of the crime in the communities identified is highly concentrated in a few areas that contain a high concentration of low-income housing. Unfortunately many people with little or no money don't often make the best choices in their lifestyle or who they decide to associate themselves with.

I could find a nice place to live in any one of the communities listed by the OP and feel perfectly comfortable living there. I grew up in East Hartford and would live there today if it wasn't for the low performing schools. Many of my relatives still live there and enjoy the quiet neighborhoods, convenience, and affordable houses. The deciding factor to leave for most of my cousins was once they had school-aged children they wanted to live in a community with higher-performing schools.
