Disney is after gigantic savings, and ESPN is huge in personnel costs. This is a bigger depth of cut than Disney has ever done before.
You do realize that Sikorsky has other clients buying helicopters other than the US Army. There’s other branches of the military, foreign governments and private buyers. It’s hardly as bad as you seem to think.

Disney is cutting just 3% of its current staff. That’s hardly “gigantic”. They are talking about making ESPN a separate division. That would be hard to do if they made significant cuts in staff. Until formal announcements are made, though it’s all pure speculation. Jay

This Sikorsky loss is huge, Jay.

3% at Disney's size is gigantic. Unprecedented for them.

Eh, it’s not a surprise. After overhiring after Covid, like many did, it’s not unexpected.

Unprecedented? Unprecedented since 2020 maybe.

Exactly. It wasn’t that long ago they had layoffs there. 3% is not a lot at all, especially when some are already vacant positions. Jay

I agree 3% isn't much. It could be much worse but then again look at Indeed.
https://www.ctinsider.com/business/a...s-17854877.php

Now this doesn't mean all of them are in Stamford but still smaller places can have a higher percentage overall. 15% is much more than 3%.

The other part that gets a bit confusing on hiring/firing is that it isn't always that accurate. FTE (full time equivalent) can be a more accurate number. Let's say you have a place of 100 people. Then quit and they hire 20 part timers. Some might say that there's 110 jobs so it's a gain of ten. The reality is it's now 90 full and 20 part time but the FTE level is 100 (assuming exact half time). Then it gets odd when some are contracted out so they aren't really an employee at all. Sometimes this is simple but sometimes it isn't. Do you work for an employer with a staffed custodian or is it a company?

With the military like I said companies can move production if they can't find people. Car companies do this now and then.
https://abc7chicago.com/belvidere-il...mbly/12900945/ Is it technically a job loss if it moves? Can you reasonably expect people moving for work multiple times and hundreds of miles? That might be find for military work but factories are hard to say. If people want jobs to stay they'd be more apt to lobby the shareholders of the companies rather than the government, as long as it can switch production to civilian use.

A Baltimore wood construction product manufacturer is proposing to build a massive 450,000 square foot automated factory in Windsor. No word on how many it would employ but it is a huge addition to the state’s manufacturing sector. Jay

Is Igor Sikorsky still a part of Sikorsky? Just curious.

Interesting - Blueprint Robotics uses CNC technology to manufacture panels to build homes. They can provide them complete with doors, windows, and full rough plumbing and electrical.

UFC/WWE merger is concerning, as UFC will own majority stake.

When two similar corps merge, expect to hear stuff like synergies, a/k/a duplicity of operations, which means we do not need two H/R, accounting, maintenance departments. We need one.
