Every one is different.

I would choose Trumbull over Newtown and some people would choose Newtown over Trumbull. Everyone has different tastes and likes.

Case in point from city-data, data:

Newtown median home value $424,930
Trumbull median home value: $424,119

Looks pretty close to me.

Let's just say Furturetown & ctgirl says "tomeyto"* and I and my fellow Trumbullites say "tamahto"*.

BTW, I have a lot of wealthy friends in Fairfield and Westport, one of whom has access to a private beach. So while you are up there in Newtown this summer far away from the coastline I will be sunning myself on a private beach. By the way I see it I am sitting pretty. That is one of the benefits of living in Trumbull, being closer to the coastline. And I happen to LOVE the beach.

I would further like to point out the area I live in of Upper Long Hill/Tashua from city-data info.

TASHUA
Medium Household income: $114,453
House Value: 650,663

UPPER LONG HILL
Medium Household income: 113,525
House Value: 533,440

(I know this is from city-data but I can't imagine that my area of Upper Long Hill has almost the same income as Tashua. I would think the income in my area would be much less than Tashua. It seems wrong to me.)

My little area of Trumbull is not too shabby, eh? IMO it is a nice little quiet area with just the right amount of wealth (but not too much) to keep the area looking very nice without the down county rat race and pretentiousness.

Wow. This is a rather unexpected post from someone supposedly not interested in keeping up with the Joneses. I think ctgirl's point is, is Newtown is a spectacularly beautiful New England town, which is true. Maybe I missed the median household income figures she provided though. Hmm...

Default One word, Bridgeport

Trumbull is great and all but I have one word for the southern border, BRIDGEPORT!
Newtown's southern border, Reading, need I say more.

Yes. This one even more so, IMHO:

Yeah.

Getting back to the OP's general question: Yes, i do find Trumbull residents to be significantly more hubristic than Newtown residents.

After a few decades of living between the two towns and working in both, I quite agree with this statement.

Looks pretty even to me........

NEWTOWN
Household Income: $103,777
House Value: $424,930

TRUMBULL
Household Income: $99,289
House Value: $425,119

Like I said, if the OP FROM NEWTOWN feels his town is better (after a devious way to prove it) he can go collect his bet.

*please go read my first post and you will see that I have been far more sincere than the OP Newtown resident before the intentional bashing of my town to win a bet.

When considering the desirability of Newton does the very tragic events of Dec. 2012 enter into the equation? Are there some people that might shy away from moving to the town? From my own perspective it would not influence me one way or the other.

Curious what others think.
