For a comprehensive explanation, please watch the documentary Inequality for All on Netflix (released in Feb). It's not biased. He shows charts, diagrams and all sorts of factual data to back up his argument. Facts.

What does it cost for your commute anyway?

You're paying for gas commuting between Fairfield and Times Square.

You're paying peak toll pricing in NY.

You're paying to park your car in a lot in probably the most expensive location to park in the country.

Let me guess, now you're going to say that you earn bonuses or commissions on top of that $16.

/FAIL

And Fairfieldconnecticut - no offense but you were just complaining about your horrible commute. For $16/h? No thanks.
Only thing I can do to pay off my bills.

Henry Ford did this with his Ford Motor Company. At one point during his business, he decided to jack up the wages of his employees drastically. This also allows companies to be pickier at who they want to hire. Anyway, many of his employees then were able to afford to purchase a car from Ford itself, which allowed him to make even more money, and thus create even more jobs.

The name of the game is to ensure that people at the bottom can afford stuff, while ensuring that people at the top have enough revenue to create jobs and grow the business.
Hilarious that you claim to be a knowledgeable poster, then fall for this old tripe about Henry Ford. Ford had an absentee rate of 10% and turnover of more than 300%--he was not paying the wages demanded by the market so the help wasn't showing up. So he raised wages to market rates. Period. Altruism didn't enter into it, except as a fairy tale made up later.

People at the bottom will never "be able to afford stuff" if the stuff has to cost more than it should because the input costs like wages are arbitrarily set at above-market levels.

What you and your heroes Krugman and Reich deny is a simple economic fact: when you raise the price of anything, less of it gets used....including labor. You are for mandated job losses at the very bottom end of society, how cruel.

gas costs about 5-6K a year. The only tolls are heading north on the New England thruway and leaving the Bruckner for FDR Drive. Or, if I get off in Westchester on 287 to the hutch to cross county to saw mill then there is a toll on the Henry Hudson bridge.

I have a reserved parking spot for my job. The toll on the New England Thruway heading NORTH is $1.75. The FDR toll costs $4.00. The Henry Hudson Toll costs $4.00 if I decide to go that way.
