Sorry if this has been asked before, but want generalized feedback.

We are moving to the area in a couple months and no idea on any of the area. We would just love to know what town/suburb you would recommend between hartford and new haven or in that vicinity? Just want to get a feel for what towns are more recommended, than we will look at them based on our needs/wants.

Thanks!

What are your needs/wants and how much are you looking to spend?

If you will be commuting to both and need a town with good schools, towns along the stretch to look at, from closest to New Haven to closest to Hartford, are North Haven, Wallingford, Cromwell, Berlin, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield. The halfway point is Meriden, but I always have a tough time recommending that city. Middletown is also halfway, but the schools aren't fantastic. Great downtown, though.

Hello - welcome to Connecticut.

There are a lot of nice towns between Hartford and New Haven - it just depends on your budget and what you are looking for. Is it more important to be closer to New Haven or Hartford? How important are schools?

Wallingford and North Haven are two towns that have solid school systems, are safe and are closer to New Haven. They offer a lot of convenience in terms of shopping. Cromwell and Berlin are towns that are about halfway between the two. The schools are also solid, but they're smaller towns than Wallingford and North Haven. Both are very convenient to a lot of shopping, restaurants, big box stores, pharmacies, etc. Closer to Hartford, you have towns like Rocky Hill, Wethersfield and Newington. Again, solid school systems and a lot of convenience. In those towns, as well as Cromwell and Berlin, you'll find a lot of smaller, and older but well maintained, homes and small lots. They do have some bigger and newer homes as well.

If you're looking more upscale, Cheshire is a bit closer to New Haven and offers very good schools, and Glastonbury is closer to Hartford and has excellent schools.

Middletown and Meriden are in between both cities as well, but I would not recommend either for schools. Middletown has a lot of nice restaurants downtown, especially if you like Italian food.

Definitely would need more information. They vary so wildly.

Right now I just want to know which town people would choose if they had a choice between the two cities (or around that vicinity) regardless of anything else. Basically want to know which towns are the favorite choice to live in, safe, and the nicest.

Schools do not matter. Distance to either is fine.

Also, which towns would you recommend avoiding?

Feedback on Meriden, Hamden, New Britain and Southington?

Other than part of Meriden and Middletown, I would not worry about safety in any of them.

it really depends on your tastes as to what you like. Old Main St in Wethersfield has a lot of historic homes and charm.

Southington would have my vote of these four. Middletown & Wallingford would be next, given that schools don't matter to you.

Southington is easily the best of the four in terms of safety and resale value.
