Man, our highways seem like they need a total do-over. Some areas are hideous, like I-84 in Waterbury. They have been doing construction there for years and it has just gotten uglier. Riding on Route 8 through bridgeport feels like a death trap. Route 91 north of Hartford is very dumpy. What do you guys think?

They first tore up 84 in Waterbury 20 years ago it has basically been under constant construction since.

Well Europe for the most part no I agree. Japan is a bit different, the way the gov is structured once something is decided its planned and done with minimal interference. So no not months but way shorter then here. In the end the biggest hurdle in the US is democracy it self. Letting everyone have their input tends to slow things down.

91 north of Hartford at least was widened within the last 35 years. Ditto 84 from Hartford to the Mass line. What Connecticut needs is traffic metering with stoplights at the on-ramps with cameras to issue expensive moving violations to people who run the light. If there's a traffic jam, don't allow more cars on the road.

Ramp meters were studied by the state and found to be impractical. The problem is that we do not have long ramps to store vehicles or parallel roadways to divert traffic to which are big parts of ramp metering overall. IF they truly worked you would be seeing them across the northeast but for the most part you do not. Jay

I gotta say after driving through many other states, CT roads are actually in much better condition. But there's still many areas that need major road repairs.

First off, we're not a democracy, so that a wrong starting premise.

Second, we used to build roads a lot faster when we were the same kinda republic, and Japan was same kinda of whatever.

Third, if we were a dictatorship and build road faster, I'll take the "democracy" and slower building. Thanks

True, I-95 asphalt is in terrific shape, now matter how narrow and little there is of it.
