Didn't we vote for a lock box type thing last November? I know something like that passed.

Which then begs the question: Why have people vote on a given "lock box" if that "lock" will just be broken later?

IIRC, states can add tolls to federally funded roads under two conditions:

- to add HOV or HOT lanes

- to support specific pieces of infrastructure, ie bridges.

The latter is what RI has done with it's truck tolls.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has a Pilot Program that allows tolls on interstate highways. That is the program that Rhode Island used to implement truck tolls on its highways. Connecticut had previously been approved to implement tolls on I-95 between New Haven and New York and on I-84 west of Hartford as part of that program too. Any new proposal for tolls must be approved by FHWA, though they have been very supportive of the various tolls proposals our state has been evaluating as a model for future financing programs. Jay

I get the sarcasm. Much of my tone on here regarding the outdated highway system is flip, sarcastic, and rhetorical.
I remember back in the 80s folks talking about i95 improvements in CT and the 30 year timeframe. Here we are 30 years later and stlll saying "maybe 30 years from now".

Could the do-nothing Republicans finally be coming around to a compromise on transportation funding? Yesterday Governor Lamont presented his CT 2030 transportation plan to key Republicans and they did not dismiss it. Could we finally be close to seeing a viable plan to improve our aging transportation infrastructure? Let’s hope. Jay
