Would Hartford benefit from the addition of commuter rail service to Boston? Would that benefit exceed the cost. Massachusetts is considering extending commuter rail service from Worcester to Springfield. Would it be worth it to extend that to Hartford? I’m not sure. How many people in metro Hartford want to use rail to get to Boston. Like the article on the upper Housatonic rail service, it comes down to money. Will see. Jay

I just read this and was going to post a link to it. The seven kep projects to watch are:

Phase 2 of the Parkville Market - Phase 1 features a whopping 21 restaurants and 3 bars. It attracts an unbelievable 100,000 patrons a month. Phase 2 will add to that. That’s great for the city.

Phase 2 of Park & Main - The first phase is constructed and looks great. The second haste adds even more apartments so it will be a great addition to the South Green neighborhood.

Pearl Street Firehouse - A developer is about to buy the historic structure and convert it to apartments

Historic State Buildings on Trinity Street - The south side is set to become a charming residential neighborhood with the sale and conversions of two historic state owned buildings, setting stage for a much larger development of the vast surface parking lots on Capitol Avenue.

55 Elm Street - Anotheir historic formerly state owned building on the south side of Bushnell Park adding to the charm and character of the area

North Crossing - Formerly called NoDo, this a multi phase development is under construction across from Dunkin Donuts Park and the first building should be completed next year. The next phase is in its financing stage and will be even bigger. Great addition to this long overdue development area.

Arrowhead Development - Another redevelopment of buildings near Dunkin Donuts Park that will help transform the area.

In addition to the above a number of major projects like the redevelopment of Pratt Street should make downtown an even greater place to live work and play. Jay

That would be insane. It would cost billions of dollars for a 2+ hour ride. A bus to a multi-mode transit station near I-495 and the Mass Pike might make sense. That’s where the metro Boston traffic jam starts where you want to get people out of cars.

I've been interested in skylines and buildings for a while now. Hartford has some pretty tall buildings for a city of its size, but I was wondering when you guys think Hartford will get another tall building (20+ stories). Downtown Hartford has way too many vacant lots. It needs more consistent density and height.

Yea, this only makes sense to me as part of an actual HSR path between Boston and the other major cities of the northeast corridor, most notably to NYC, and mostly avoiding the Connecticut coastline. However, I don't see why that would go through both Springfield and Hartford rather than just one of them and the big part of where funding would be needed would be the stretch from NYC to wherever in CT it runs through.

Outside of that, bigger transit priorities should be on grade crossing elimination, double tracking more of the Hartford line, and electrification of New Haven branch lines and the Hartford Line, and more EMUs to service such as well as streamlining operations for a less antiquated and personnel intensive ticketing system.

The management company (Spectra) that operates the XL Center merged with Los Angeles-based Oak View Group LLC, could be a positive for the Hartford facility.
