It's at the control of NYC and Boston Big 4 team billionaire owners, not the cities themselves, they have no say either. Owners will never approve a team in Hartford going forward no matter what mindset CT has. The Patriots were the last chance. They are called New England. They wouldn't have invaded another market.
Maybe Hartford could build a new Fenway Park and lure the Red Sox away. Construction for Dunkin Park was a fiasco so I doubt they would go down that road again.
The Hartford Red Sox would sell out every game with luxury suites bringing in 100Ms. The Coyotes wouldn't draw 5000 on any given night in Hartford.

Frankly, I find it more surprising that CT does not have a Big 4 team. Hartford went from having the Whalers, Celtics, and were on the cusp of getting the Patriots, to having none today. As you alluded to, the Hartford/New Haven media market is the largest in the country without a Big 4 team. Many smaller markets in the US have Big 4s. Coupled with the fact that CT is home to some of the largest sports media outlets in the country like ESPN and NBC sports, I'm sure some are salivating at an opportunity to get a Big 4 into the market.
The difference is those smaller markets are not under two hours from competing teams. That’s why you won’t see a major league team here. Jay

What about Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field? Jay

I've never been to Pratt & Whitney Stadium, but based on pictures it looks like it could work. It would probably require some improvements to the stadium to get it fully up to grade such as replacing the benches with actual seats, but there's definitely potential there.

What a great program for the city. Let’s hope there are a lot more like these. Jay

I'm all for renovating the XL Center. But I would like to know more about how renovations will translate into more revenue.

One thing did come to mind that could get a pro team back in Hartford. A new sports league like the WHA. If a new pro sports league started up to compete with one of the other four major leagues then yes, there is a possibility Hartford could get a team if the ownership has the money and ability to work a deal for a new stadium or likely a fully revamped XL center. Likely would need more seating for hockey and basketball now.

A nicer arena means they can charge more for tickets, get more/better acts for concerts and performances.
