I'm not sure I'd call it fiscal liberalism as simply misguided. You can find sports related projects around the country financed with the help of people across the political spectrum. They are big visible projects hence politicians like to attach to them, but economically it's almost always a bad idea.

Hartford should just go ahead and claim bankruptcy. Bad for now but in the future it will help balance out everything the way it should be. Look at Detroit. Couple years ago it was a piece of s$×# but now its up and comming and soo much new money comming back to the city

Yeah and it will be really easy to get 38 towns to agree on anything, nevermind how to buy and own a professional sports team!

This piece is embarrassing on so many levels. More what you'd expect to hear from a couple of old-timers talking nonsense in a sports bar after a few too many drinks than what you'd expect from the leading newspaper of a capital city and written by a councilman in said capital city.

Whalers are ancient history and people need to get over it. It looks pathetic like constantly pining over an ex-girlfriend that left you 20 years ago. And the nonsense about building a new arena home hoping the Whale would return is like buying a house for that ex-girlfriend hoping to lure her back after 20 years. This constant looking back is bad for the heart and soul, it prevents you from looking forward, and it looks really backward to the outside world. It speaks volumes to the outside world saying "our best days are behind us".

These, my friends, are not the words or actions of a great city. Let's pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, dust ourselves off, accept closure and good riddence to the Whale and move forward.

I think this is a critical project for the future of the city. The Trumbull Street corridor is the heart of downtown. These two buildings have been a dead zone (along with the XL store fronts). When these buildings are filled with people the street will really come alive.

I think these apartments will go very fast. Bushnell Park is at one end of the street and Dunkin Donuts Park is at the other The XL Center is in the middle of the corridor and two theaters are within a block, not to mention the proximity to a variety of restaurant s and bars. Few cities have a street with so much to do so close.

This is a project that really help the city reach critical mass and turn into a real 24 hour neighborhood. A jumping Trumbull corridor can help changer perceptions of the city.

Looks like the redevelopment of Capitol Avenue is moving along nicely. Multiple buildings being renovated and the new Capitol Lofts building is already 50% rented. That is pretty impressive given the area was marginal at best. Jay
