I think you did exactly what I suggested you do, even after you were all NO, yesterday.

Good luck with the job! I wish you success.

I told you before you even left that Ohio was a very industrial rust belt state that relied heavily on Manufacturing type jobs. My cousin has an MBA from Syracuse and works as a service manager for an oil company servicing oil burners and such, the real world works different from College, MBA's arent that big a deal anymore, in the finance news more layoffs continue on Wall Street.

Your home and life is on the east coast, settle down young man and work for what you want. I just closed on a 150k home with 1.05 acres, if I could do it anyone can, blue-collar roots, college smarts, work ethic of an army, you need to adopt those traits.

That's not true in central Ohio. Columbus is very white collar and there are more corporate headquarters per capita here than any other metropolitan area in the U.S. There are big companies here like Nationwide, Cardinal Health, XPO Logistics, DHL, L Brands, Express, NetJets, Emerson, AEP Ohio, Columbia Gas, and the list goes on and on...

Of course I will be more cautious this time around and work hard. But I'm not going to stress and burn myself out. Geez.

The great thing about this job is that I will be reporting directly to the CFO, as I will be the only sole tax person in the entire company. So it's ALL on me.

I just read the offer letter and my title is Tax Specialist. So I guess it's not really a senior/manager role after all. It's a staff level role. What the hell...it's like they did a bait and switch on me.

I think there are more global corporate headquarters in our office building on Park Avenue than Columbus. (Bristol Myers, The National Football League, KMPG, while Citigroup global HQ and Centerbridge are next door).

Just ask the HR person about it.. sometimes roles have different titles in the system than what your functional title will be. Especially at really large companies. If you report directly to the CFO and you're the only tax person, I imagine there will be plenty of responsibility and growth in that position.
