As CTlibrarian said UConn moved its Hartford campus to downtown Hartford.

I’m not sure how you could leave more of the site in a natural state unless you go up and highrise buildings would not be accepted in West Hartford.

So you understand once you go above five or six stories, you can no longer use traditional wood frame construction. When you go to concrete and/or steel construction you must go way up in density and height to make a project cost effective. It’s all about dollars and cents.

West Hartford’s Town Council has approved a portion of the proposed redevelopment of the UConn campus. The first phase will consist of 322 apartments.

Hope the town is prepared to deal with yet another spike in traffic. That area is already congested and it's about to get worse. And the real sad thing is, many of the residents who oppose this voted for the very people who approved it, and will continue to do so. It's like when the Grinch stole Christmas but everyone in Whoville sang anyway. Idiots.

Will it be much different than when it was a commuter UConn campus? I understand that traffic has dropped since the property has just sat there, but I would imagine when was a college campus, it brought decent traffic.

700 cars were coming and going just within the last year or two when it was a St. Francis parking lot. The world didn't end.

It's still a St. Francis parking lot with cars and shuttle buses constantly going in and out. I don't see how this will create any more traffic than that.

Well, if you think it's such a trivial matter, you can tell that to the people living on Asylum Ave across the street from where this goliath of a project is going to be. As always, the people who don't live in the areas where controversial projects are going up can never see what the fuss is about.

It's Asylum Avenue. It's a busy area. It's always been a busy area. Like people who buy houses in Storrs and then complain about loud obnoxious UConn students. Who saw that coming?

But I don't know that this will create any more traffic than the UConn branch created for years there anyway.

By State law any development that is 100,000 square feet or larger or that has 50 or more parking spaces and abuts, adjoins or has a significant impact upon a State Highway, must obtain a Major Traffic Generator Certificate from the Connecticut Office of the State Traffic Administration. That Certificate will include traffic improvements that the developer must provide in order to open their project.

This project must go through the OSTA application and review process. Also by State law a building permit for the project cannot be issued until a Certificate has been issued and a Certificate of Occupancy cannot be issued unless all conditions of that Certicate have been met.
