I think if the numbers go down enough soon enough this will change. There's already no NYC pools for budget reasons (unlike pools in Westchester County or town pools in CT, NYC pools are completely free to go to first come/first serve and you don't need to be a resident either) and I think the first time we have a 95 degree heat wave in this situation they will change their minds.

NY has been surprisingly not too draconian when it comes to parks compared to NYC and NJ and many CT towns. Very few parks in NY outside of NYC itself and Rockland County have closed. Westchester County kept golf courses fully open until Cuomo squashed that and ironically he changed course and is now the "loose" one (Westchester is only reopening two public courses). The Westchester County Parks Facebook page tells you what's open and encourages you to carefully come out.

I would be betting the spread at beaches is near zero, especially in summer. UV, heat/humidity, fresh air circulation, and people naturally socially distance at beaches. Why would anyone voluntarily get within 6’ of another family or people? And you can’t stop friends from gathering all summer. Better outdoors than their house.

These decisions will erode trust in our leaders over time, and then people won’t even want to follow basic guidelines.

That’s exactly what it is. The left playing politics with this is absolutely maddening.

As the fund has always been 100% funded by employers.

So listening to the state telling us not to worry without telling us how they will account for the gaping hole in the budget is not too reassuring.

The covid 19 part is being funded by the Fed Govt.

You guys really need to read the FAQ on the CT DOL website.

I may have misunderstood when they first announced this but isn’t the 100% federal funding only applicable to the $600 extra and the longer period of unemployment? Won’t CT still be paying the “regular” unemployment benefits from their UI program funds with the feds bankrolling the additional monies in full?

How will they replenish their fund?

What? The state does NOT control wages other then setting the minimum wage and that has not kept up with inflation. Jay

I think nearly 32,000 deaths overshadow that. At least it should. Jay

Viruses do not have cures. The human body is the only thing that can eliminate them - a fever is one way the body tries to kill viruses. There are treatments that lessen the severity of some viruses and of course vaccines that prevent the virus from taking over cells in the body.

A French researcher is about to start a study to see if nicotine can help the body fight off the virus. It was found in one hospital that only 8.5% of inpatients were smokers versus 25% of the general population. There's a commonality between the binding of the virus with an enzyme and prior research shows that nicotine affects that enzyme.

They are not suggesting people start smoking but perhaps with more research, they could develop some sort of therapy that involves nicotine.

My son is a research associate at a biotech firm and he says that the ideas that researchers come up with often are sparked by another study they read or from an associate they spoke with at a conference.

Most of the time I've agreed with him but I think this is a terrible overreaction. Even "Fairfield mom" Brenda Kupchick realizes that closing open spaces and beaches was not necessary.

This is the fourth time I've said it: Your chances of getting it outside are almost zero. Especially on a day where you'd think about heading to the beach.

More positive news than the weather...... Fairfield County Hospitalizations..

While positive cases keep going up, hospitalization numbers keep dropping..

5 & 10 day moving average now under 0. 5 of last 7 days with less in hospital.

I haven't updated in 3 days. Let me catch up and I'll try to post some more. This was awesome to see!
