Downtown Danbury or downtown Waterbury?
I live in NYC and am taking MetroNorth up to a wedding in Southbury, CT. Which train station would be more convenient for catching (more likely, calling ahead for) a cab--Danbury or Waterbury? Also, if I have to end up spending some time there waiting for trains/cabs, which is more worth my time as a day tripping tourist? What are these areas like?
I'm leaning towards Waterbury at the moment.

Have you already planned transportation? There usually isn't cabs just sitting around the Waterbury Metro North station. And also, make sure that the Waterbury line is actually running. I know they're doing work on the tracks in June-July on the Waterbury line.

I know a couple in Southbury who commute to the Bronx daily - they drive to Southeast in Brewster (about 30 minutes). It beats switching trains in Norwalk or Bridgeport to Danbury and Waterbury, respectively. Plus you would still have to drive from the Danbury or Waterbury stations to Southbury. That can be a pain. Southeast is the way to go.

Thanks for the info about the track closing. What I've done so far is research Metro North schedules. What I plan on doing is calling ahead and reserving a cab.

Any idea how much it might cost to get a cab from Southeast/Brewster to Southbury? Or for that matter, from Dan/Waterbury?
I'm tempted to take your advice!

I'm not sure how much a cab would be - probably not cheap as most of the cab companies charge you a lot to go from town to town. You can try Maffei's Taxi out of Danbury - they are the most well known cab company in town (other than CT limo). Their number is (203) 792-0029.
If you have a drivers license, have you considered driving?

Have you considered taking a bus instead? Peter Pan bus company runs buses from NYC (Port Authority) to Southbury. The bus schedule and fares are posted on their site...looks like it's about $24 each way. Much easier than trying to get to Southbury by train!

Ah yes, I forgot about the bus. That would be the best option.
