Default Portuguese Community

I'm most familiar with the portuguese community area in Hartford (Parkville section) and know that there is a decent size community in Bridgeport. What sort of jobs are you looking for in New Haven? Are schools important? I'm guessing that you are a student? Many areas of New Haven are very nice, while others are not. It would be helpful if you provided a little more info about your living/working needs to provide direction.

Most of New Haven is nice and safe. Neighborhoods to stay away from include Newhallville, Fair Haven, and parts of the Hill neighborhood. You don't want to be around St. Raphael's hospital. My favorite neighborhoods would be Westville, East Rock, Downtown and State Street.

I used to live in Westville and never had any problem with crime. I rather liked my neighborhood. I am unsure of what the Portuguese population is, but in my neighborhood we had many immigrants, the ones I knew were mainly from South America. Around Wooster Street is the traditional Italian neighborhood, other than that the city is a mix of all different ethnicities.

Crime is typical of a large city. From what I understand tho is the taxes are very high in new haven. Also the schools there I beleive are rather bad. Use www.trulia.com and www.zillow.com to compare citys.
