I've lived in the Midwest for 20 years, and before that in California for 36 years. Experienced earthquakes, mudslides, and wild fires during my time in CA, and tornado threats and floods in the Midwest. No, I would not move and I've never ridiculed any one on here. You take precautions and do your best under the circumstances. Unfortunately, no matter where you go, disaster can strike in one form or another.
I have no risk of forest fires like so many of my friends do...along with flooding.
Btw, we have water from the snowfall this year for 2 more years they say...that is, if
we got zero...but every year there is snow to add to that.
Yes, water can be an issue...esp in the decades to come.
I live in what I consider to be a safe place.
No more Fla, no more KCMO for me.
Just driving one summer to St. Paul from the SW was scary...I didn't know
what to do as the storm clouds were getting darker....while I was IN
St. Paul a tornado touched down and ripped up many trees in a local park!
I, personally, couldn't do it...my surroundings being safe are very important for my
peace of mind.
Maybe this subject is too touchy...I didn't anticipate that. And I am sorry if
it offends people not moving away and loving their place.
I just personally couldn't do it...maybe I was in a
catastrophic event in a past life.
The same people who would not move away from tornado alley seem to be the same people who deride and perceive as stupid those who live in New Orleans and that general part of the country after a hurricane.

That's a ridiculous assessment of people you don't know. I wouldn't move from the tornado alley, but have never said anything negative about people who live in New Orleans or that general part of the world. There are many others who haven't either.
Tornado Alley covers one-third of the country--and even with boundaries that wide, some of the tornado damage this past week was in the eastern part of NC, which is not in tornado alley.

Catastrophic events can happen anywhere. Floods, earthquakes, sink holes, lightning strikes, etc. There's nowhere to move to that is safe; the universe is trying to kill us. At least tornadoes are familiar to those of us who live with them. They're also very unlikely to hit your particular house, unlike say living in a flood plain or forest fire zone.
Basically, moving away because of tornadoes would be really irrational, and you're more likely to die in a car accident with the moving van than you were in a tornado.
Yeah, because that's a forum where everyone tells the facts.
I wasn't quoting facts; I was quoting opinions.
