Very sad, and very preventable. Glove boxes are not secure storage for weapons. Most aren't even locking.
I always place my pistol in an under-seat safe when I have to enter a government facility or building where there is a security check.
Can't imagine how the parents feel.

It's the parents' own fault for having a gun, for leaving it in the glove compartment of a car and for leaving a two year old with reach of the gun.
You place your gun in an under-seat safe? I can understand guns for hunting but if you can fit it under the seat, I don't think it's a hunting gun. Sounds more like a killing people gun.
Same post you run out over and over fir every gun related thread. How about all the children who swallow household cleaners and poison themselves every year? That is routine too right?
The odd thing is that many people take more care to lock up their household cleaners than their guns.

why can you understand that? meat is readily available in countless supermarkets all over the place. guns are for killing people. hunting is more of an added benefit (its considered a sport). of course you will want a gun in your car. you want a gun everywhere you are.
Why would anyone need a gun in the glove compartment of their car? And why isn't this moron facing charges, no one that irresponsible should be allowed to have a pet let alone a child.
How many morons get prosecuted for backing over their children in the driveway and killing them? One doesn't make the other right but the kid gets killed just the same.

If guns are for killing people then why aren't millions of people being shot to death in the USA? Aren't there a few hundred million guns owned in the US?

Guns are for safety because people out there are insane. As for keeping a gun in the car, it is to protect against some of these road rage lunatics that want to kill you, and for carjackings and many other things. Do you think the Palestinian guy who went on a stabbing rampage in Israel would have been able to stab so many people if someone on the bus had a concealed carry gun to put him down?
Tragedy out of Florida where a loaded gun was in a glove compartment and a child got in the car, opened the glove compartment, got the gun, then shot himself dead.
Yet another story about a 2-year-old getting hold of an unsecured gun and causing a death. That's been one per month for the last 3 months.
Those glove compartments have locks on them for a reason.
